I usually stay away from 'bloody' books as it disturbs me. I am having more than enough nightmares, so don't wanna add some bloody ones to it. But I can help you with dark and scary books.

Yes. OK. 👍🏼

I haven't read anything bloody but want to try.

Dark and scary it is. No paranormal though. I don't like to read that.

Mercy or Hope

“Pallaviiiiiii…..”

Raghav woke up palpating, eyes wide as soccers, arms stretched out trying to hold something or someone. It was almost 3 am, the usual time he woke up screaming, but the dream or the nightmare was different. She said goodbye.

Approximately a few seconds he sat there in the pool of blankets trying to register his surroundings. The disparities of the previous nightmares and the last one were the answers to his questions.

He never wanted those answers but needed them. He knew.

When his heart calmed down, he stood up, barely sparing a glance to his right side, the small figure curled up in her sleep clutching her favorite horse toy.

It had been six years since that fateful day. It was as explicit as a sunny day inside his mind, the floral orange sari she wore, matching with Sai's floral baby pink frock, everything was so jovial and enthralling. Ebullience was the second name of his girls, they had filled love in his life.

Just a fun, just a game, just a mistake…all the rapture left him. She evaporated in to the thin air from his eyesight. He would have followed her into that death trap of trees and flowers but his own pink flower was calling for him.

He did not have any idea what happened in the next few weeks. She was there beside him taking care of their girl. However, she was not there when he wanted to hold her, she was not there when the baby cried for a drop of milk, she was not there to hear amma when she called for her medicines, she was not there to chat over a chai with Kirti and she was not there with Farhad to make fun of her husband.

“Pallavi, no… don’t…. don’t stand there carelessly…. come here. It’s dangerous.”

“No, Raghav, why are you such a loser, see it’s thrilling.” Pallavi beamed at him, slightly twisting her neck to look behind.

“There is nothing thrilling there,” He stood up from the blanket he had spread on the floor, slightly panic.

“Raghav, stand behind me like jack and try to enjoy this cool wind. It’s so romantic” She spread out her hands and closed her eyes.

“This is not the place for romance, Pallavi.” He rebuked.

“Then where is that, Raghav?”

She turned to look at her Ghamandi Rao, but could not withhold what she saw in front of her for more than a second before that she was facing the sky. His arms shoot up to catch her though she was already falling into the depth of the valley.

Another month, another day, a ray of hope fell on them. She was found alive but not living.

Despite how many times he stepped inside the room, his breath stuck always. Despite how many times he helped her to change her cloths, he cried always. Despite how many times he sat beside her speaking his heart out, she did not respond ever. She was as lifeless as a corpse but the slight beeping from the machines attached to her gave him a small desire until yesterday.

“So what do you suggest, doctor?"

“Euthanasia,”

Raghav was silent, calm before the storm. A thousand times he had killed the doctor in his head sitting in the security of the chair. Farhad, who stood behind his Anna moved towards the right to act if needed, to be the receiving wall of the gale called Raghav Rao. He knew If Raghav erupted the doctor and the hospital would drown in his anger.

“You want me to sign her off to death, is that what you mean?” The voice was merely audible but the chill that went down the other man's spine was anything but soft.

Though the doctor was scared, he was not an imbecile to react to such situations and that to a man like Raghav Rao.

“Hear me out, Mr. Raghav.”

“I don’t want to hear anything, I will not spare you for even having a thought like this,”

Raghav walked out, Farhad hot on his tail.

Nevertheless, life is lethal.

He sat beside his Pallavi like he always does after a day at work, just gazing at her. She was asleep, day and night didn't make any difference to her. She had been sleeping since the police found her in the valley.

He loved talking to her about his day keenly observing for a movement, even a slightest twitch of her long and beautiful fingers gave him hope. It had became a routine to him, everytime his eyes filled with tears but she never reacted.

He missed her sarees. He missed her lectures. He missed her scent. He missed her food. He missed her eyes. He missed her smile. He missed her care. He missed her affection. He missed his wife. He missed his child's mother. He missed his Pallavi.

Doctor said she was in pain, her endurance to pain was so high that she never held any sign of pain on her face.

He carefully took her palm inside his, keeping it close to his heart. The warmth she gave him even in that condition amazed him.

He slowly started speaking to her, one last time. The decision was made.

"Saree ka dukan.... how are .... you there? Are... are we there with you in that... heaven you are so adamant to leave?" The tears leaked out of his eyes to her hands, wetting them. The ice was melting.

"Yesterday Sai asked if you hear us. I said yes, but I don't know.... What will I tell her tomorrow when she .... won't find you hear?" He sighed, "Maybe she will just know, she knows everything. Pals baby, they requested to let you go... Amma, Aai, Kirti, Farhad, Krishna, everyone wants me to free you from this pain. Are you in pain?.... Am I hurting you by this, by keeping you close to me?....." After a second thought, he continued not bothering to wipe his tears, "May be I am, like always. Raghav Rao is only capable of inducing pain... You know, Sanki Sasur came to meet me today, he also wants me to give up. They say you don't want to be with us. The doctor said to give you mercy. You want it, I know... "

Separating her fingers from his, he laid down beside her. Even though he always wanted to do that, he never dared, afraid to hurt her. Keeping his head on her chest, winding his hands around her waist, he slept before promising her the deserving mercy.

The next day, Raghav Rao signed off Pallavi Raghav Rao to death. He rescued her from her pains, so romantic to her, savior he was. The voices told him that he did the right thing, but they did not know how he would forgive himself. Everything was so easy for everyone. All the doctor had to do was just remove the life support, all Amma and Aai had to do was cry, all Sanki Sasur had to do was stand behind and watch, and all Kirti had to do was console amma.

Raghav had to give up on his own life.

Six years on a same bed, waiting for a miracle, one by one the organs falling apart, having fugues eat you slowly, you just cannot wait for the impending death. As the nightmare, Raghav once again pushed her into the valley of death, making promises that he will meet soon.

Not a drop of tear fell from his eyes. Numb bodies don’t cry. The seven year old in his arms, held her father tightly, she didn’t know what she was doing but, she was putting all the pieces her mother broke together again, to welcome a new life, a new sunny day, a new hope.

Thank you so much. Glad that you read this.

Loosing a loved one is dreadful and if that's unexpected then it's unbearable. 💔
