An ST/SC person even if he/she belongs from a rich or well-to-do family, still can face discrimination by them because of his/her caste while getting jobs or promotion, even during admissions if there is an interview process. That's why reservations exist so that these organizations don't discriminate people based on their caste.

Of course, nobody is going to openly admit that they are casteist. But they would still have that personal bias and they would show it while choosing candidates for admission, jobs or promotion.

Saying that rich people can't face casteism is the same as saying that rich women can't face harassment.

Removing reservations from medical or army doesn't mean every candidate would be/is chosen through merit there. There is internal casteism which exists as well.

So an average doctor from the general quota could also get promotion over a doctor from the backwards class, even if the latter is more qualified for a promotion than the former, only because their boss who most likely belongs to the general quota is a casteist.

If a doctor of reserved quota with 40% of marks in MBBS is operating in a government hospital in a village, then that's not because of his caste. But maybe it is because there would be doctors with 40% marks in general category as well. They would be operating somewhere as well, most likely in the private hospitals where they could get in because of their caste.

Maybe medical schools should set a higher bar for passing marks if they want more competent and qualified doctors. Blaming everything on reservation is not right.

What you are saying is right. The question is how to get rid of people’s deep rooted prejudices.

He did apologize after the outrage.

So now coming to the controversial part of the post -

I think while the joke is definitely casteist, but deep down -- what he said, that you should not put those who got into the system through reservation in extremely critical situations of life and death -- is that completely wrong?

I mean what would you do if, god forbid, your loved ones were caught in a life and death situation and their fate is to be decided by the doctor that operates them. If you had two options, one - a doctor who is from general quota, or another doctor who is from a reserved quota (meaning their marks in all likelihood may not have been high enough, but thanks to the quota created for backward classes, they were able to get into the system). What would you do?

I don't get into political slugfest or such controversial social issues 😛 but when I go to a doctor I do not ask him or her, he or she is from which quota or which state or that sort of thing😆, it is a bit stupid IMO😆. The fact that he or she has a legally acquired license to practice medicine is enough for me☯️.

Very well articulated.👏 That 40% cut off mark must have been simply an ploy used to display tgeir rabid racism. Otherwise, in real life, who woukd know the real marks of their doctors? Do we around asking for marks sheets of our doctors? Ofcourse not. The real reason anybody would avoid the doctor would be bcoz he comes from the oppressed caste. That's all. This stupid reason about tge 40% is just an red herring to hide tgeir ugly racism and casteism. Anyone who's aware of tge ground realities of India knows that. My mom used to work as an principal for a government school. As the principal, she had to appoint an cook for tge midday meal programme for tge children. She appointed an SC woman, who's reputed to be an great cook in that village. The parents complained to my mom to remove her, but when my mom refused to budge, the children refused to eat the meals, abd they used to throw away the good everyday. It's nothing to do with the lady being a bad cook or a good cook. It's just that tgey want to discriminate against her bcoz of her caste. The same way, the doctor must be discriminated bcoz of his caste, nothing to do with his marks sheet. Besides, just by getting good marks, one wouldn't become an good doctor , abd vice versa.

You talk without knowing the entire thing. Reservation was only used to access the college, after that they were all put through the same standards in all the tests and exams. Their passing percentage was same and any student not able to perform is expelled.

So how can you generalise that doctor's from a entire subsection are not qualified? And worst off is the fact you're saying this when we are facing such a dearth of doctors.

People are already afriad of getting vaccinated or approacjing doctors in general for say mental health or sexual health. Now when you say things like that, it would make people even more hesitant. Next what? People are gonna prefer doctors on religion?

Also what is your opinion on those doctors who study on management quota? Seems like you're quite okay being treated by them so your issue really seems like SOMETHING ELSE
