I do agree with you about not encouraging such stuffs but you can't change the custom overnight. By refusing this a girl gonna create problem in her own family, society wouldn't change. Here Ahaan is ready to going through a ritual for Ishqi's safety for him it's not about men/women it's about safety of the partner irrespective of gender and peace in the family and THIS itself is a step towards adapting the progress and not encouraging patriarchal mentality.

If I am not wrong guys are made to do the same ritual too if there is so called dosa in their kundalis too

There is a movie called Phillauri . It's a comedy movie based around the same ritual where the guy marries a tree .

I hv seen it in two movies .

True the whole ritual is wrong. But it's the same for both .

A lot of us fast thru one whole day (karva chauth or vat savitri or kardya nombu) for the long life & wellbeing of iur husbands. That is also superstition in a sense. But our sentiment as a loving wife is to not leave any stone unturned for our suhaag, isn’t it? I am sure Ishqi herself will be ready to do karva chauth fasting aftr marriage. So this tree-marrying could have been taken in the same sense by her.

On the other hand I do agree that too much burden & blame for the husband’s wellbeing is placed on the wife’s piety, conduct & luck. The danger is that is used as a tool for humiliating women as being “inadequate” or unlucky for all that goes wrong with men. It should be questioned.

If I were Ishqi I may have agreed to the tree-marriage under protest - that means I will go through it for the sake of Dadi but I will publicly disapprove & not make any pretence of being ok with it. I will also insist Aahan to make his stand public, that the life of the husband is not determined by the wife’s piety.
