It just feels very submissive, idk, idk maybe I'm reading too much into this! 🤔

Yes! I love Rimjhim Gire Saawan. I love the KK version but the Lata version beats it hands down in the picturization. The rains, AB and Moushmi height difference and 70s Bombay! ❤️

No worries. I understand where you are coming from. :)

Yes! I was conflicted with which version to post since I like the KK version more, but the Lata Mangeshkar version takes the prize hands down for the picturisation. I guess I sided with my auditory sense than my sense of vision for this one.

Edit : I just heard both of them again to understand why I liked one more than the other. I think so it has to do with the tempo and the music as well. The tempo of the Lata Mangeshkar one is a bit higher if I'm not mistaken and the music also is significantly different. This one seems slightly for a lack of better word modern?

But I love the sitar bits ( I'm guessing its the sitar) in the KK version. It's a bit slower and I like that.

Plz yhn aate raho aur song post karte raho, KD ko bhi tag kiya tha, shayad vo bhi join karegi.

I'm not that great with the GK and history of all these songs, I can however write essays on how they make me feel. (That's a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the gist) But some of the songs out there feel such that I struggle to find words to express what they make me feel. I guess it's just an emotion. I'm sure there might be a word for the myriad of emotions felt when listening to music. I'll post it if at all I come across it.

I'll surely come. My today's contribution is,

I don't know why, but this song feels like a lullaby for adults to me. Has a very calming and soothing effect. Love the tune of the second stanza even more.

Mora Gora Ang Lai Le - Lata Mangeshkar (Lyrics: Gulzar)

Jogi Jabse Tu Aaya - Lata Mangeshkar

O Panchhi Pyare - Asha Bhonsle

Mat Ro Mata Laal Tere - Manna Dey

O Jaanewale Ho Sake Toh - Mukesh

Ab Ke Baras Bhej - Asha Bhonsle

Bandini (1963), Music: S. D. Burman, Lyrics : Shailendra

what a fabulous album, every song is a gem, it's difficult to choose which one is better, but my favorite is O Re Majhi.

among such amazing singers, Burman Da stands out, with his effortless singing in his unique voice, made this song a timeless & memorable classic.

Mann ki kitaab se tum

Mera naam hi mita dena
Gun to na tha koi bhi
Avgun mere bhula dena
Mujh aaj ki bida ka..
Mujh aaj ki bida ka
Mar ke bhi rehta intezar....

Mat khel jal jaayegi
Kehti hai aag mere mann ki
Mat khel.. mat khel..
Mat khel jal jaayegi
Kehti hai aag mere mann ki
Main bandini piya ki
Main sangini hoon saajan ki
Mera kheenchati hai aanchal..
Mera kheenchati hai aanchal
Mann meet teri har pukar..

Oooo another one for today. This one also seems like a timeless one. Has potential to fit into any era. Love the tune of the antara for this one as well. So many songs out there whose Antara I love even more than the Mukhda.

PS: I think I have a lot of favs from 60's and 70's.

it happens to me all the time, when I listening to old songs, it feels like kisi aur hee duniya me pahunch gye ho. can't describe it in words.

yes, this song has calming & soothing effect, & picturization has justified the song. I feel it's a very soft romantic song, maybe a romantic lullaby for adults.

Supriya dear, there are many duets in which Dilip Kumar and Madhubala used to act marvelously, with soul touching lyrics.

This song .... wah what to say, just close your eyes and slip in to a dreamy world, esp that boat scene

Thank you for posting this song, Madhuri dear! I did mention this song in my post as the third of Dilip Kumar- Madhubala's duets and said it would warrant a separate post since it's very dear to me!

And I know 'Tere Sadqe Balam'. I was talking about only strictly duets which Tere Sadqe is not. It's a Lata solo.

I still think there are only 3 DK-Madhu duets that are proper duets i.e with both male and female singing. Of course, there are many songs picturized on them both! So many from Tarana, and Amar and even Mughal-e-Azam. But they're usually solos.

I find this strange because they are such an iconic pair, up there with RK- Nargis but have done only 4 movies and have only 3 duets picturized on them!

Whereas RK and Nargis have scores! I can't even remember RK doing movies with anyone other than Nargis in the early 50s except for a rare Dastaan, or Sargam or Dil ki Rani.

Beautiful song, and you're right it almost feels like a lullaby, and if I close my eyes I can feel the 'majhi' rowing me across in a tiny boat on a river with the wind in my face and the sun in my eyes and the gentle splash of the oars as they push through the water. RDB's voice adds to that feeling, it has a faraway sound to it, exactly like a rustic boatman would sound!

It's strange though, his dad, Burmanda's voice also has a uniquely rustic quality to it, like I've remarked before, but still father and son are different. Burmanda's voice is more piercing, sharper, and full-bodied while RDB I think is softer.

The perfect time to talk about the song you posted, Mousy - 'Mere Saajan hai uss paar'.

What do I say about SDB? The man is talent personified. I feel sad that he's not as praised or even as talked about as his son, who of course, is also undeniably talented - but he had an able teacher!

Bandini, as you've rightly said, has some excellent songs!

Mora gora ang lai le was Gulzar's first song as a lyricist and we all know what heights of fame and creativity he reached, and is still going strong! It's such a sweet, simple, hummable tune with a folksy element that Burmanda excelled in. Jogi jabse tu aaya mere dwaare is yet another example. Listen to the antara and you'll be amazed at how complex it is!

'O panchhi pyare' and 'Ab ke baras bhejo' are two of my favorites, and I love that he used Asha for these.

And O jaanewale is a plaintive plea in Mukesh's mellifluous voice that rings and echoes in your ears. Especially the antara gives me goosebumps. Like another Mukesh- SDB song that is also a background one and never fails to make me cry -

Chal ri Sajni ab kya soche

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuNp_LY13P4

The lyrics by Majrooh pierce the heart like sharp arrows, especially

'Babul pachtayye haathon ko mal ke, kaahe diya pardes tukde ko dil ke'

and 'koi nahi apna kaisi ghadi hai'

You're right, Mousy, it's hard to pick a favorite in Bandini but Burmanda kind of steals the thunder with 'Mere Saajan hai uss paar'.

I have waxed eloquent earlier about 'Wahan kaun hai tera' - my absolute favorite Burmanda song in his voice, but this one comes close as does yet another from Sujata - 'Sun mere Bandhu re'

It seems Burmanda recorded the song with many established singers at the time but was dissatisfied at the effect - he wanted a slightly rustic quality to it, he wanted it to sound like an untrained singer singing it casually, the lack of finesse needed to be obvious in the singer's voice since it was going to be sung by a 'majhi' in the movie. And I think he achieved it brilliantly in his own voice!

Just listen to the effect of the music and the sound of the water splashing- it sounds faraway, with an echo-like feeling, his voice perfectly echoing the feelings of Sujata and Adhir. Such a beautiful song!❤️

After all that heavy-handed serious talk, I want to post a fun song! 😃

Main hoon ek khalasi from the movie Sargam (1950) starring Raj Kapoor and Rehana.

This song is a personal favorite. I first heard (and saw) it as a little kid on a TV show and I loved the song and the picturization so much that it has stayed with me all these years! It isn't a famous song at all, probably wasn't even a hit when it was released. The music director C. Ramchandra tasted tremendous success with a later release, Albela that came out in 1951.

This song is unique in its combination of Raj Kapoor and Chitalkar playing back for him. Chitalkar is none other than C. Ramchandra himself, he used this name when he did playback which he often did when he was giving music.

The lyrics by Pyarelal Santoshi are pretty straightforward and just so fun!

Main German na JapaniWink

Afghani na Irani LOL

Na Turk Baluchistani Big smile

na gora Englisstani Tongue

Main prem nagar ka wasi LOL 😉

mera naam hai Bhimpalasi Big smile

Raj Kapoor is so rocking in this song! This was early RK days before he sunk into his Chaplinesque persona, and he looks so suave and handsome here. Plus his dancing skills are to be seen to be believed! He has a natural rhythm that's hard to emulate and his expressions are spot on!❤️ This song has an infectious rhythm that became C. Ramchandra's trademark. You can hear it in Albela's Shola jo bhadke too.

The video is really poor quality but it's the only one I can find! 😒

Tagging you, Madhu since I know your love for Raj Kapoor! 😳
