A LIL BIT OF ROMANCE
PART - 1
'Milind! Wake up! Wake up!!!' said the voice so close to his ears!
'Hmmm! I don't want to. Let me sleep!' so saying Milind turned around and promptly went back to sleep once again. To ward off any more nuisances from the voice he covered himself from head to toe with his comforter.
'If you don't wake up this very minute, you are in big trouble mister. So saying the lady in question stood at the foot of the bed with her hands on her hips. She had a slight pout to her lips as if she couldn't decide whether she wanted to get angry or exasperated at this guy who was sleeping like a log on her bed.
'Hmmm!' was the only sound she heard from under the comforter.
'I am giving you exactly 30 seconds to wake up or else you want like what I am going to do' so saying she went and sat on the chair that was placed next to the window of the bedroom and started counting.
'Your 30 seconds are up!' she told him loudly so that he would clearly hear it.
She walked up to him and suddenly pulled the comforter off of him and threw a glass of chilled ice water on his face.
'Heyyy' Milind woke up with a start and looked at the beautiful woman standing opposite to him. He still had a massive hangover and did not understand how he landed up here of all places.
He wiped the cold water off his face and looked at her now.
'Do you have aspirin? My head is hurting like hell from yesterday's party' he looked at her with soulful eyes expecting some sympathy and love from her.
'No! Even if had some, you will not be getting it and I will not be giving it' she told him sarcastically.
'Now, where is all this hostility coming from? I am a very nice guy, haven't people told you that already' trying to coerce her into getting himself on her good books. He winced as his head started to bang again.
'No, they haven't and even if they did I would not believe a single word uttered by the whole lot of them' she told him in a dry tone.
'Hey! Why the hostility? Just because, I don't know your name doesn't mean I am not one of the nice guys!' Milind said.
'B**Shit! You and being a nice are something I have to see to believe it' she said in a nastier tone.
'Hey! Lady! Can we have this conversation later? Please get me an aspirin'
'I'll give you one but you better get out of here once you take it' saying she handed him an aspirin from the bedside table.
'He took the aspirin and was trying to get out of bed when he realized that he was in his boxers and nothing else.
'Where are my clothes?' he asked confused.
'Where are your clothes? They are where you left them yesterday! Don't you remember a thing?' she looked at him with disgust.
'Where I left them? Dammit, I can't remember a thing? Where am I by the way?' Milind asked curiously
'Mr.Milind Mishra you are in my hotel room. Let me emphasize the point that you are in 'MY' room. So, get going'
'What is your name?' he asked slowly.
'I am not interested in telling you my name. Can you just leave now' She told him. I will wait in the sitting area. Please leave my room ASAP.' saying that she walked out of the bedroom.
Milind got himself out of the bed and walked towards the bathroom and washed his face and looked at himself at the mirror. Flashes of what happened yesterday night came back to him.
He was at a dinner gala hosted by the All India Business community. He was being awarded the 'Business Man of the year' award. He had been alright till he had taken his first drink. Ayesha his girl friend had been there with him at that point. His mind drew up a blank after that.
Who was this gal? He hadn't seen her yesterday; even if he had, he couldn't remember her right now.
Man, she was pretty. He would not say that she was a classic beauty but she had a very arresting face. Those big eyes and her lithesome figure would have any man looking at her a second time. But right now, the lady in question was not happy with him.
He'll have to remedy that once he got himself dressed. He did not get the name of Casanova for nothing. He enjoyed woman. He liked them without any emotional entanglements. He enjoyed playing the field.
Now, his eyes were set on this girl who was not giving him the time of day.
He got himself dressed and was about to step out when he caught sight of something. The girl had left her handbag behind. He knew it was wrong to dig through a ladies belongings but the imp in him pushed to check on her identity.
He opened her bag and a card fell out of it. He picked it up and read out the name out loud 'Prachi Shah' interesting name he thought to himself.
PART - 2
Milind replaced the card and was about to step out when Prachi came rushing inside and shut the door so hard that it reverberated at the hinges. She leaned her head on the door and closed her eyes, she was agitated. When she opened her eyes after a few seconds they were blazing with fury.
'You idiot! You Fool! How could you! I am in big trouble and all that's happening today is all because of you' she shouted literally at him.
'What are you talking about? I did not do anything to you? Did I?' Milind was so intoxicated yesterday night that he couldn't remember a thing that had made him finally end up in her room.
A knock sounded on the door. She turned with a startled look on her face.
She looked up at Milind with disgust and said, 'Hide you dolt! Hide!' she hissed at him in a whisper.
'Ha! Why should I and I did not do anything wrong?' Milind whispered back.
'You better hide Mister or you will be in trouble sooner than later' she hissed back.
Meanwhile, another knock sounded at the door. This time a little bit more forcefully.
'Prachi, Are you in there or not?'
'Go! For God sakes go and hide somewhere! Fast! Please'.' Her voice ended with a pleading note.
Milind felt an instant sympathy for her and did as she had asked him. Once Prachi had confirmed that Milind was well hidden, she answered the door.
'I am coming' so saying she opened the door.
'Neev! What a surprise? What are you doing here?' She acted surprised even though she had seen him enter into the lobby of the hotel earlier.
'Well, can't I surprise my fianc' for one? I returned from Europe yesterday and decided to meet you here' he gave her a once over and hugged her.
'Of course, you can. It's just that I was surprised' Prachi said.
He held her in his arms and said, 'Hmmm! I missed you...Prachi! Really missed you?! Couldn't wait till next week to see you and that's why I came here directly before heading out to the office.' He said sheepishly.
'So, how was the dinner yesterday night? I would have attended but was so tired from the trip, I decided to skip it.' He said with his hands still on her shoulders.
If only you had showed up yesterday it would have been easier all around and she would not be in this catch 22 situation after all. But Prachi did not let any of her thoughts show on her face.
'The dinner was good. But not as interesting as I thought it would be' all the interesting action had happened after the dinner buffet and she did not want to talk to Neev about that yet.
'Do you want to have breakfast?' Neev asked her.
'No! I am not hungry right now'. She din't want to leave the room till she send that stupid Milind Mishra from her room.
'Why? I thought you never skipped your breakfast!' Neev was surprised that she did not want to have breakfast. He had known her from their school days when he had lived in Bombay and Prachi was one of the few people who could never skip her routine.
Not wanting to dwell further, he asked 'So, when is your flight to Bombay? I will drop you off at the airport.'
'NO! I mean no, I'll catch a cab from here and besides it's later in the afternoon' with the situation she was currently in she just wanted Neev to leave.
'O.k.! But''
'I am serious Neev. I will take a cab. I know you have a very busy schedule and this would interrupt your work' Prachi said knowing that she was literally almost pushing him out the door.
Even though he was not happy he finally decided to oblige.
'O.k.! But be careful. Delhi is not a nice place for nice gals like you." He said with a smile. "Give me a ring once you reach Bombay.'
'Tell me about it' she mumbled thinking of her situation with Milind Mishra.
'What did you say?' Neev asked.
'Nothing, I will call you as soon as I reach there' to get Neev out of there she gave him a quick kiss on his cheeks and said good bye to him.
'I don't know why you are pushing me out of here, but I'll leave' giving her weird look and smile Neev started to walk out of the door.
'Neev' Prachi called. She was feeling guilty now.
'Yes' he said as he turned towards her and opened the door at the same time.
'I'll miss you' she said.
Neev smiled at her and said 'Me too. Tell Inder uncle that I will be there in Bombay next month to talk about our engagement' so saying he walked out.
Prachi breathed a sigh of relief after Neev had left. She was turning away from the door when Milind stepped out from behind the curtains. He and Neev were best of friends. He did not even know that Neev had been dating or for that matter seeing a girl until he heard Neev's voice at the door. He had been initially surprised but now he wanted to know more.
'So! Who is that guy?' Milind asked with his cocky grin.
'You don't have to know, just leave' Prachi said in a rude tone
'But, I am curious. Tell me who is he?'
'None of your business! Mr. Mishra'
'Ha! It is my business now. As I seem to have spent the night with you everything related to you is my business!' Milind retorted back!
'What the heck? Who do you think you are? You don't have the right to ask any questions of me. Just GET OUT' Prachi's voice was trembling from the extreme emotional turmoil she had gone through in the last 12 hours.
'We'll see. We'll see..." He said easily. "I know who you are Prachi Shah. I am leaving now, but we'll meet again sooner than later! My Dear' with that ominous threat he patted Prachi on the cheek and let himself out.
