Err, you said acting matters and not stardom. Likes of Nawaz have done full blown lead roles and arguably are the best actors out there, but no one discusses them cuz no stardom.

PC succeeded to an extent in Hollywood, is what I said.

I said stardom also has its hierarchies. Stars who can act will always be at the top of the list compared to 'stars' who cannot act for beans. PC and Katty are both stars, but Katty will be ranked lower because of her frozen face.

Kat and Vicky are already rumored to be dating for a while now but I had to chuckle at "confirms Harshvardhan Kapoor." Who the heck is he to "confirm" anyone's relationship status? Is he a fly on their bedroom wall or something?! 😆

Actually the biggest misconception people have about celebrities in Bollywood is that they are ‘artistes’. But they are just products of Pr & marketing. I’m sure if Pankaj Tripathi or ratna pathak shah invested in the kind of PR which stars like Katrina do, I can bet we would be talking about them too. So, yes while stardom can’t be ignored, it’s not a big fat achievement either. Mostly, it’s a manufactured image through PR, hype, publicity & marketing. And that is why, we are taking about them.

Take a random person + (Katrina’s PR machinery) = a new star is born.

Take a talented person + ( only focus on craft nothing else) = an artiste is born. (Moderate publicity & fame would come automatically here also and in rare cases, if the person is really talented, then a new star is born here too!)

He wasted her peak years and moved on. Ranbir followed these weird rules of deserving and went for Alia who is younger and a better actress, from a prominent family and much better connected than Katrina is. I don't think getting together with who they "deserve" is going to work out that great for Aloo and Ranbir either.

Vicky is an actor and will keep her relevant when she's not acting anymore. Aishwarya was a bigger star than Abhishek but he's the one working and earning both through movies and his sports teams now. Aish is sitting at home and doing nothing and nobody would even remember her now without the Bachchans. Marrying a smaller star currently still has its benefits in the long run.

I agree, just gave me a thought - Wonder how Kareena has managed to nail this. She married Saif, (slightly bigger star than her) but has still managed to remain relevant and has kept working. She hasn’t hesitated to take up a mix bag of roles even now. And even with two babies, nothing seems to be stopping her.

The thing about relevance - yes, “who” you marry can help to an extent. But mostly it’s really about your work - how versatile you are as an actor, how open you are to taking up new kinds of Roles (not just leads) and how passionate you are about your work.

With Aishwarya, her beauty kept her in the news all throughout her 20s till her 40s. Right now, people want more than good looks. Unfortunately, she doesn’t seem as interested and I don’t think she is that versatile as an actress. And that’s the problem with being a star > actor. It’s short-term.

But for actresses like say Tabu, Vidya or even Rani for that matter - they will not be as much in the news for their stardom but will keep relevance through their work.

Kareena is an anomaly. She got dealt great cards.

Almost all of the Bollywood relationships are unbalanced...but then Saif and Kareena seem equalized with a good combination of give and take. That helps the both of them a lot. They were/are both big stars, successful on their own, and still are relevant and working. Their stars don't overshadow each other's, even when their individual careers are going upwards or downwards (like I don't see Saif throwing jealousy tantrums when his career slumped and hers kept going). They're both good actors, attractive, well connected. Saif got a young, hot wife and that boosts his ego, makes him look like a stud (def in the beginning years of their relationship). Kareena married a rich prince who comes with a good lineage and a stable family, and though he is divorced with two kids, it hasn't affected her worth. Saif has been loyal and devoted to her ever since they got together, likewise Kareena to him. There's a balance in their coupling that keeps them afloat personally and professionally.

Ranveer and Deepika might be the only other pair that have that kind of balance.

I think Kareena just wanted it more. Acting seems like a passion for her. I saw her recently in Angrezi Medium where she has this small role of a hardened cop. She didn't need to do it - she has plenty of other work. But she does these types of things because she truly enjoys acting IMO.

With Aishwarya, she found her calling in being a mother. She was so beautiful that she ended up an actress without having to do any real work towards it. Things just kept falling into her lap and who wouldn't take the opportunities if they throw them in your face? She used to brag about how she doesn't lobby for work as if that was such a great thing. She also seems introverted - she always looks uncomfortable in parties and events and interviews. Like I said, if she didn't have those looks and people didn't keep throwing work at her, she would have never been in the profession.

Now she's happy just staying home and being a mom and she genuinely seems so much warmer and nicer after having a daughter. Before that, she seemed icy cold and unlikeable.
