Hello folks,

I'm a huge fan of old classic Hindi Songs, and have been looking out for like-minded people who would love to chat about their favorite songs/ singers/ music directors/ lyricists from that era and share trivia!!

If you are one of those who love these songs too, please sign up on this thread and I will update your name on the list! I would love to restrict this to 50s through 70s. 40s and older are welcome, 80s and later - not so much! smiley9

Is this actually dedicated to the Golden Era of Bollywood music?

I wanted such a thread for so long to be able to talk about all those beautiful melodies

Can you add me too, Liz?

Done! Feel free to start off the discussions, Alexia! And yes! This is dedicated to the Golden Oldies!

This song has been playing on loop in my head since I woke up this morning.

It's such a lilting tune, and a little unlike Madan Mohan's usual style. Adalat is more well-known for its amazing ghazals but I have a soft spot for this waltzy number!

Plus he uses Asha here, instead of his usual favorite Lata, and it works! ❤️

Thanks a lot Liz

If asking my favourite in that era then it was this song

https://youtu.be/eArec8UyNh0

It's just amazing

The haunting melody sung by Lata Mangeshkar is definitely a masterpiece

And the lyrics by Kaifi Azam and the spooky tune by Hemant Kumar is just so beautifully dark

Adaalat did have some good music...{Actually, that era had good music}

I love Mohammad Rafi a lot

Yep, Jhoom jhoom dhalti is a haunting tune! Did you know the movie 'Kohraa' was inspired from 'Rebecca'?

And here's yet another haunting tune by Hemantda (lyrics by Shakeel Badayuni). The movie is Bees Saal Baad (also starring Biswajit and Waheeda), inspired by Arthur Conan Doyle's Hound of the Baskervilles.

And hi-five on Rafi! I adore him. Though I always say I like songs and not singers, if you held me at gunpoint and asked me to pick a favorite singer it would be Mohd. Rafi.

Yeah, I do

Actually, I watched the 2020 version of Rebecca and felt it was kind of similar to Kohraa and then got to know that there was a 1940 movie of the same name and that was the original movie {Obviously inspired by the book} and then came Kohraa

Hemantda was definitely known for his haunting melodies. Like in the night when silence is your companion his songs are usually in that setting

Liz! I love this song so much!

Kahin deep jale kahin dil

Jara se dekhle aakar parvane

Teri kaunsi hai manzil

Lata Mangeshkar's voice just makes it even more spooky than it is already

Though I havent watched the movie {Makes me think I should}

Rafi's voice is that how do I say, the deepness is perfect with a smooth undertone..I dont know how to describe it

But his voice is just perfect in a way
