I do get your point but it still doesn't make much sense medically. Because by that definition, did India do bridging trials on pretty much all medications made outside of India? Like the latest cancer and diabetes medications? Because if your concern is variation due to diet and region, it should be applicable to medications as well. For nstance GLP-1 and SGLT-2s. Also for all other vaccines that are routinely administered like MMR, Varicella, meningococcal, Pnemonia, Hep B and A etc.

Yes India does bridging trials not only for all vaccines but also medications and medical equipment like cardiac stents, bio polymer knee caps etc.

It is supervised by Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) Which is India's equivalent body of USFDA.

It has 7 labs and 13 port offices across India for this purpose

One of its divisions DGCI controls medication pricing for India

While another division ICMR focuses on research on new medications and adaptation of existing medications for Indian patients.

Also as I mentioned in one of my posts elsewhere mere efficacy of a vaccine or medication on an Indian patient is not enough.

In India storage and transportation of medicines and vaccines is a critical component of decision making too.

Majority of Indian health care centers (80 percent) cannot provide logistical support for storage and transport of mRNA vaccines at ultra cold storage freezers. They gave regular fridges which store at -10 degrees in which Pfizer vaccine cannot be stable

Nothing is sorrier in this situation than hiding behind bureaucratic skirts.

The pandemic has been going on since early 2020. More than 1 year to prepare. The 2 vaccines currently in use in India were given emergency approval, not regular approval.

The mRNA vaccines are only JUST NOW being trialed on 100 patients with merely 1 WEEK of monitoring.

The govt didn't bother to trial them until now. And is not doing a proper trial even now as is being implied.

The refrigerator argument is equally false. Moderna requires only regular refrigerators. Pfizer requires deep freeze, but no one is going to claim credibly that the AIMS centers and IITs and space research centers and the military don't have that capability.

The companies are willing to provide them at cost. Meaning no profit for them. What they have asked for is indemnification, which most countries have okayed given the dire situation. India has refused.

Even the currently available vaccines should have been manufactured in ample quantity given the time they had.

Either the authorities were grossly incompetent or maliciously corrupt.

100 participants? LOL

Pfizer's original study has 1600 Asians and Im sure south Asians probabaly compromised more than a mere 100 of that 1600 sample. Even if so, this was completely unnecessary. As if Indians or South Asians are that genetically different from other ethnicities that their chemistry and immunological response would deviate from the other ethnicities so drastically. Yes, this with factoring in region and food.

As of February Pfizer's become a bit more flexible regarding transportation and storage temps.

Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that it is allowing undiluted frozen vials of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine to be transported and stored at conventional temperatures commonly found in pharmaceutical freezers for a period of up to two weeks.

India has 13 AIIMS, 2 Military Hospitals equivalent to AIIMS and less than 500 equivalent hospitals in private sector. IITs are not providing vaccination

India has 130 crore population of which majority do not have access to the above.

They get their vaccinations from Rural and Urban Primary health centres and smaller hospitals

When Indian healthcare is struggling to provide oxygen to Covid patients, your assumption that India has the ultra cold storage facility to provide mRNA vaccines to majority of the population is not valid.

This has got nothing to do with bureaucracy or anything.

People can deny all they want. The healthcare facilities that India needs on a regular day is abysmal and you all are saying situation is bungled in the Pandemic

The pandemic just exposed non existent infrastructure which was hiding in plain sight.

And sorry whatever anyone says I cannot accept that such infrastructure can be created in one year.

In India after 75 years of Independence we have only 13 AIIMS for 130 crore people.

No even at cost Pfizer is a waste. As is moderna which can stay in regular refrigerator for a week.

Because it takes much more than a week for vaccines to be transported to smaller towns and villages.

It's like offering cake on cost to a diabetic, because they are hungry. It's a waste

America can keep them and release the covishield vaccines that they have stockpiled instead

Yes America has stock piled Astra Zeneca Covishield which is what we want and would love to take it at cost instead of Pfizer and also Raw materials to produce covovax.

Sputnik and Novovax would come in soon enough.

Yes it's frustrating that I am under 45 and am not getting a vaccine and may not get one soon enough but I am grateful that the members above age of 45 in my family have all recieved their two doses in a private hospital and our house help and her family members got for free at the govt centre.

I and she both had the same experience when we went there for the seniors in our family

Long queues, wait for more than 3 hours but everyone got it eventually. At one instance was sent back home with a token and asked to come after two days

Now pandemic has hit the roof and there is panic and there is more crowd.

But we are 130 crore so we will have to wait our turn inspite of our frustrations because we are the ones who voted the people in power for last 75 years.

Unlike the British or Mughals who ruled before them.or the kings, we the people voted those who are in charge for last 75 years not just the last couple of elections.

It is what it is

Till then do what I do while I wait for the vaccine mask up and maintain social distancing and pray to God

by 2024 all will be forgotten and same people who are crying suffering will again stand in line and vote for the current lot in the name of desh bhakti / mandir masjid / hindu muslim

How come Modi only has interest in saying ‘his man ki baat’? How about for a change he listens and pays attention to the ‘Jan ki baat’?
