i hate this....it happens soo much in bollywood...i mean it happens in other industries 2 but they actually give credit...but in bollywood the music industry is huge....Hollywood films don't have songs...only soundtracks...so i find that the problem is much bigger in bollywood. Supposed top composers such as pritam...have copied so many songs and i just fin it lame that they get rich and famous. Sure many of the beats he uses are from songs that are sung by established singers in the west or far east so they don't sue him but its still so lame because people consider him a top talent...when he just uses others work....its so sad.....one of bollywoods top talents steals other peoples work....shows the state of the industry....and not to mentioning copying movies.....they copy everything..

This is a landmark and sets the tone against copycats. It also opens the doors for claims against several past copycats.

Wonder if fear is already gripping some of them. I have also seen several Hindi songs copy popular English hit songs. So I expect big Tamasha in play.

Ram Sampat schemed to make money: Rakesh Roshan
11 Apr 2008, 1917 hrs IST,PTI

MUMBAI: With 'Krazzy4' finally hitting the screens on Friday, the film's producer Rakesh Roshan has hit out at music composer Ram Sampat who had slapped a copyright infringement case against him and later withdrew for an out-of-court settlement and alleged the latter had schemed to make money out of him.

In a statement issued here on Monday, Roshan said it was interesting to note that 'Krazzy 4' music was launched in February 2008 and the promos containing the alleged infringed work was released on TV on all channels in the end of February 2008.

"All these days, Ram Sampat chose to wait and instituted the suit in the High Court a few days before the release of the film. This was a well-planned scheme of making money. Having all the proof in my hand to defend, I was helpless for want of time", Roshan charged.

The filmmaker said he was required to be in the court when the prints of the film had already been delivered all over the world.

"Finding myself caught in a helpless situation and to keep up my commitment with distributors and to respect feelings of the audience, I had no way but to succumb to the pressure and to compromise on the matter, thereby seeing that the film is released on the announced date.

"To honour all these commitments, moral and professional, I paid the price to Ram Sampat who strangulated me just days before the release," he alleged

^^^ well agar dhun churayi hi nahi hoti to usse scheme karne ka mauka hi nahi milta 😛

I am very happy that Ram Sampath stood up for his rights and that the court supported him too. I heard the jingle on the news today, "Break Free" is a blatant lift of it.

I believe Ram Sampath's version of the story that the Roshans and the company did not respond to him when he was trying for a month rather than Rakesh Roshan's claim that it was Sampath's scheme. And even if it was a scheme, the Roshan's deserved a slap on the face.

First the Roshans executed the scheme of copying, so Ram Sampath executed the scheme of getting them to compensate. 😆

My conscience is clear: Rakesh Roshan
12 Apr 2008, 1843 hrs IST,IANS

MUMBAI: Krazzy 4 producer Rakesh Roshan says that his conscience is clear on the allegation of plagiarism levelled by jingle composer Ram Sampath on a song from the movie. He said he has paid Rs.20 million to Sampath to include the song in the film that released on Friday.

Roshan says that it was only towards the end of March that he learnt that the tune for which he was dragged to court belongs to Sampath and not Sony-Ericsson.

"We took a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Sony-Ericsson and they gave me a letter of consent. I went about this the right way.

"My conscience is clear. Towards the end of March I was told the tune belongs to Ram Sampath and not Sony-Ericsson. Not in my wildest dreams could I doubt the company's intentions," Roshan told reporters.

He said: "I was misinformed. I was in a crisis situation and had no choice but to pay up the Rs.2 crores (Rs.20 million) that was asked of me."

"I'd like to ask Ram Sampath one thing. If his tune was the same as the one in Krazzy 4 wouldn't it have been an equally big hit when it was played as part of the cell phone ad campaign? That too had Hrithik dancing in it... Yes, the main hook line is the same," he added.

"And if Ram Sampath sensed an irregularity why did he wait until my film's release was around the corner? He could have come to me when the film's music released at the end of February and made his claim. Why wait for the last minute when the film was about to be released?

"I suspect they were preparing their case for very long. On Monday, I was suddenly faced with this crisis. What could I do but pay up?"

Rakesh clears his brother composer Rajesh Roshan's name. "Let me state my brother Rajesh Roshan had no hand in this. I told Rajesh to use that portion of the song. He asked me to take a NOC, which I did."

"We don't have to stoop as low as to cheat anyone. If the prints of the film hadn't been sent off, I could've cut the song. But I cannot betray my distributors and audiences. I've a massive responsibility towards them. I could do nothing but go for a settlement. I had to pay Rs.2 crores (Rs.20 million)."

"What to do? I'm not angry or upset. It just hurts me that I was subjected to this for no fault of mine. One thing is for sure. The doors have opened now to anyone who wants make a claim over anyone's work. Fortunately Krazzy 4 has opened very well," said Roshan.

I think Rakesh Roshan is bluffing when he says that he got a No Objection Certificate from Sony-Ericsson. If he had submitted that letter to the High Court, I don't think they would have awarded the case in favour of Ram Sampath! It is clear he gave no such document.

Secondly what does he mean when he says that Ram Sampath should have approached him before going to the court? Well, Ram Sampath can say that Rakesh Roshan should have approached him before recording the song!
