That's a very twisted and poor representation of what used to be the case back then.👎🏼
It's more like yesteryear actresses.. were sort of 'exploited' by the industry.
Just like other industry, film industry was also heavily male-dominated. Women had almost no control on the content they were signing up for. I am not saying that the actresses were forced to do such scenes, but they certainly didn't have a choice.
Actresses like Jeenat and Praveen were put in the "glamour bracket". While actresses like Hema Malini sticked to "Indian, Sanskari" roles.
Women weren't as liberated then, as they are today. There used to be very less women involved in the film making process.
Else, why do you think that acting in films was considered bad back then, by the general public.🤔 We were a very repressed society back then. 50 and 60s were a good decade. 70s changed the game, and by the 80s ...mainstream films started to become categorically bad.
Barring a few good films made by some good directors, almost all the films had problematic scenes like rape etc etc just to titillate the male audience. Heck, Raj Kapoor exploited his heroines a lot. Remember Mandakini from Ram Teri Ganga Maili?😵
There are lot of problems in the industry today, but THANK GOD that women are not as oppressed as they were back in the day. They are more in command of what they can OR cannot do.
