Considering yesteryear main stream actresses totally went nude infront of camera like Dimple Kapadia in Saagar (1985) and Zeenat Aman in Satam Shivam Sundaram (1978), do you think they were more bold then todays mainstream actresses? I havent seen any modern mainstream actress going nude.

I often hear people say "back in the day, actresses never exposed like they do today" and I always laugh.

I don't think today we would have a mainstream heroine getting her tits out in a wet sari like Mandakini in '85.

Look at the reaction Deepika got when she bared a slight midriff in Ghoomar, they had to digitally "correct" it.

On the red carpet, you might see Sonam or Priyanka giving some side-boob action, but back then Zeenat Aman was doing it up in our faces.

The whole landscape was different in the 80s, we had rape scenes in almost every other movie. The songs were hyper sexual, it was a substitute for sex on screen. But today we have easy access to p0rn0graphy, that's why it's less titilating, because we can get sexual content when we want, sexuality on screen is far less voyeuristic.

That's a very twisted and poor representation of what used to be the case back then.👎🏼

It's more like yesteryear actresses.. were sort of 'exploited' by the industry.

Just like other industry, film industry was also heavily male-dominated. Women had almost no control on the content they were signing up for. I am not saying that the actresses were forced to do such scenes, but they certainly didn't have a choice.

Actresses like Jeenat and Praveen were put in the "glamour bracket". While actresses like Hema Malini sticked to "Indian, Sanskari" roles.

Women weren't as liberated then, as they are today. There used to be very less women involved in the film making process.

Else, why do you think that acting in films was considered bad back then, by the general public.🤔 We were a very repressed society back then. 50 and 60s were a good decade. 70s changed the game, and by the 80s ...mainstream films started to become categorically bad.

Barring a few good films made by some good directors, almost all the films had problematic scenes like rape etc etc just to titillate the male audience. Heck, Raj Kapoor exploited his heroines a lot. Remember Mandakini from Ram Teri Ganga Maili?😵

There are lot of problems in the industry today, but THANK GOD that women are not as oppressed as they were back in the day. They are more in command of what they can OR cannot do.

If nudity is the definition of bold, then probably yes.

Otherwise, actresses are much more in power and control now than they ever were before.
