I thought the ending was fine. What happened at the ending? It’s been a while i watched the movie.
OT: Shashi for sure!
She returned to same unappreciative people. Also, the daughter needed some solid parenting to her backside which she didn't get.
Shashi, Neerja, Rani, Sulu
What do you want her to do otherwise? She loves them and if you heard her speech in the end to the newly weds, she did exactly that in her life as well. She chose what she wanted.

😆 I didn't like it. That's all. I wish she'd at least put hubby and child in place once before returning to them.

Because that’s not in her nature. She did make them realize their mistakes though in her own subtle way. Not every woman needs to be in your face fiery kind!

She didn't need to be fiery for me. A "hey, this is your mother you're talking to," would've been enough for me even if she didn't say anything to hubby. Even culturally, that was quite possible. No one should get away with taunting a mom like that.

Like I said, it’s just not in her nature. One cannot behave opposite to their nature, right? But what the movie shows is that everyone can achieve what they want without completely reversing their personalities.
What I did like about the ending of EV. She didn't return to them because she ran out of options. She did so out of her own free will. They just didn't deserve her is all.

i dont remember sehmat being pressured into doing her job neither she ever regreted her actions
and if people here are not calling her inspiring because she cried then that s problem with people s mentality not with sehmat because crying is not a sing of weakness its just a natural human behavior
i have read the book and sehmat in the book was as broken by the end of it as in the movie
Sehmat wasn't exactly pressured but in the movie it was definitely presented as if she didn't have much of a choice, (and it was implied that if she did have one she probably wouldn't have chosen this path), as many in this thread have pointed out...
Though I do agree that her crying or having moments of regret (if "mujhe ghar jaana hai" wasn't regret then idk what is) doesn't make her less inspiring in my view either, I do remember the author of the book giving interviews saying a lot of things were changed in the film, and Sehmat basically wasn't as unsure of herself as portrayed in the film, so I was just going by what he said.

On Women's Day, take your pick of the most inspiring woman character in BW films on celluloid since 2000.
Vote/comment/discuss.
Just like in Harry Potter, Neville was rewarded for taking a stand against his friends, imo Shashi takes the cake among all.
It was a relevant story and taking a stand in her case must have been the most difficult.
Like against terrorist or enemies you need to have courage, but for going against family , idk what it takes.
