Was Katrina a major miscast in JTHJ? Who was a better choice?

Yes definitely miscast. Story was also illogical.

A better actress could have suited more and less damaging to the movie. Music was great.

My choice: Vidya or Deepika.

The shame is all on YRF. I'm finding it hard to "blame" Katrina Kaif. Her performance was basic as hell, but we all knew she wasn't a good actress, so why did Yash Chopra cast her? He had worked with Rekha, Sridevi, Madhuri, Juhi, Karisma, Rani, Preity... all Best Actress awardees... his decision and the fact that the film was atrocious takes all the blame in my eyes.

Katrina Kaif was a pretty girl, worked very hard, but the acting chops were just not there. I felt sorry for her, because you can see she's trying hard in every scene, but just missing the mark.

I wonder if it would have been better if the roles were reversed and Anushka had the role of Meera while Katrina played Akira. (although Anushka was beyond amazing in that role and I don't think Katrina would have nailed it the way Anu did, but she could have been more comfortable doing that role).

There could have been some very interesting casting choices, if the makers thought outside the box:

Katrina's role was so small. It was mainly to look extremely, extremely pretty. Take away the songs from the movie what is really left for her role? There is no actress in Bollywood that would've made this cringe-fest of a movie better. The problem didn't start with Katrina in my opinion, it started with the story and then SRK. No one wants to see 50+ old man pretend to be young 30 something "clubbing" and romancing young girls. Now if we replace SRK's role with a hotter younger man the movie improves by at least 10-20% because no one would've wanted to gouge their eyes out from the hot romantic scenes at least.

What exactly was the acting required in that part?😕 Anushka's role wasn't anything earth-shattering, either.

Yash Chopra's quality of films went down starting with the Sridevi era. Everyone talks about Chandni and Lamhe. Mediocre films, both. Darr was in the same vein. DTPH was absolutely idiotic. So were VZ and JTHJ.

Hard to believe this was the same man who made movies like Ittefaq and Daag and Deewar,

That movie should have never happened period.

I agree with you, but Kat was hardly the only thing wrong with that film 😆
