Rani was given chances, but the chances she's been given are actually "chances." They're not what has traditionally worked in Bollywood. Look at Kajol. She also got chances like the one in Dilwale and in her husband's movie, but those movies either flopped or had little to do with her character. Dilwale was the typical BW heroine role. Big director, big hero. Or a Juhi who also has her own production house and turned out a mega flop with SRK. Or a Madhuri who returned with Aaja Naachle which was promoted right, left, and center by the same YRF but flopped. The latter 2 were also doing conventional BW roles.

Rani got her chance in an UNCONVENTIONAL role and proved herself. Again.

Yes, Rani does have the advantage of being married to the one of the top producers in the country. But her husband Aditya Chopra is no mug and only continues to create these opportunities for her because her recent films have been a good return on investment for him. The day Rani's films stop making him money, he will stop investing in her - make no mistake, he is a businessman first and then her husband.

Also, to suggest that she is getting movies only through marriage is frankly insulting and undermining of her talent.

The mediocre Mardaani movies are a success because Rani is very good in them. And because people are still paying money to see her on the big screen.

Do you remember the phase in which she only did Yash Raj films? So many flops and ridiculous films and yet she kept getting films from them. Mardaani was on before her marriage was planned. As long as she is with AC, she would have kept on getting offers because he's the boss. Similarly, you see Vaani Kapoor also reaping the same benefits so...🤓 she learned from the rani...Haha!

I'm just glad to read the replies here, are mostly in favour of Rani's acting talent and they all consider her as a talented actress. I think Rani becomes the character she plays and that's what makes the film so believable and enjoyable at the same time. Her expressions are top notch always. I want her to do more and more movies when she's young. She should do 2 movies at least in 1 year. I'm glad Rani has her own franchise in Mardaani series. 😎❤️ She deserves it!!

I'm glad Aditya supports Rani, but I do think most of the movies, she get is because of her solid acting talent and the trust on her acting abilities from Production house. I want her to do movies outside of YRF as well. It's high time she does it. I want her to do a romantic movie now. She can even romance young heroes like Siddharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan or Kartik Aryan along with Saif, SRK, Aamir and Salman!!

Yes, I very well remember those string of substandard films post-peak Rani did for Yash Raj 😊 But did YRF keep offering her more films because her Saathiya, HumTum, Bunty Aur Babli had gotten them good numbers or only because she was Adi's then-girlfriend? We will never know. But the fact is that those 2007-2009 spate of flops didn't benefit her at all and in fact damaged her market value at the time. She fully disappeared for a while only to come back with a solid performance in non-YRF No One Killed Jessica. Some of her best work (to me) in the last decade has also been non-Yash Raj - Talaash, Bombay Talkies, Aiyyaa.

As I said earlier, she does have the backing of a big studio, but let's give some credit to her on-screen charisma and talent too. People (me included) are paying money to watch her on screen. Also she has had only 3 releases in the last 6-7 years, so it's not like her husband is ramming her down our throats. And if Adi is producing movies for the likes of Aadar Jain and Arjun Kapoor, he very well can make a few movies for his talented wife too 😃

I understand what you mean, babu.

I think out of all the 90s or late 2000s actresses Rani is probably the most gifted one as her talent is God-given. She started as a girl who was doing all she can to make a living for her family. I mean, when you are as honest and hardworking like that even God opens paths for you.

The problem began when she started getting with married men like Govinda and AC. With Govinda, they worked together and got attracted to each other but he was a married man with 2 small kids. With AC, she was friends with the family including his wife so you can imagine the kind of person she is once she decided that AC was the man for her. AC nah is not like the other producers and directors, he's a freaking hermit so matlab he is not that accessible to other women and having affairs at that time for him was not a thing. Rani is his second relationship after the long one with his wife.

All that aside, Rani soon became known as the malkin at YRF even before AC's divorce was finalized. He gave her films on a platter despite having flops. Bear in mind that by that time Rani started throwing tantrums and became too big for her boots on the sets because this was the production of her beau so why not?!

She was smart enough to stick to him despite AC being very different from the others because the end plan was to be married to him. Her brother got a job at the same company even before the marriage happened...

If talent mattered, so many of our actresses would have headlined films but unfortunately even our superstars think the audience wants to see younger women opposite them.

Rani will keep on getting films for as long as she is married to AC. The question is, will any big star accept a role in a YRF film that stars Rani?

I love watching her and her old films are gold. But the girl had her target set and went for it so I guess it worked out for her. 😉

Honestly, more than Rani, i feel the villians are better of both the movies. They are complex, hateful and are portrayed by men with great talent.

Exactly what a perfect franchise should be, each story, is thrilling with some top notch performances and hopefully we get more of this!

agree. GAH! Both villains were so different from each other but so memorable.

I'll always be salty that she didn't win Filmfare or a NA mention for either of the two Mardaani's or Hichki.

She was just outstanding and clearly the performance of all those years!

She is one of the four people in Bollywood who I just can't tolerate. Neither on screen nor off screen. The other three being Alia, Varun and Bhumi

THIS! 👏

It's true the Rani has a huge advantage in the form of YRF, but it's a fact that all the other actresses of her generation (who had been in BW for 20+ years at the time of making their comebacks) had also got contacts by then, but still didn't succeed the way Rani did... the fact is she is the most talented actress from that era!
