Race and gender are fundamentally different. You cannot claim yourself as a black woman because you have not lived their experiences. You don't really know what it is like to be a Black person, or White for that matter. Gender, however, comes from inside you. You 'feel' what it's like to be of the opposite gender.

If I can't claim myself as a black woman because I haven't lived her experiences, then Elliot hasn't lived a man's experience either so she can't claim to be a man or ask people to refer to her as him?

If she got surgery and like Catlyn Jenner and is asking people to refer to her as "they" because they are trans, then that totally makes sense. But she hasnt done anything sp how can she just claim to identify as whatever she resonates with?

I think I just explained the difference. Gender is something you feel from within. Race not so. Gender is the way you feel, think and perceive yourself and situations. That feeling comes from within and is not dependent upon external circumstances.

Gender is based on sex right?

The World Health Organisation regional office for Europe describes sex as characteristics that are biologically defined, whereas gender is based on socially constructed features.

How is gender on socially constructed features when clearly women and men are listed as separate words in the picture above?

I'm a girl but just because I feel like a "man" surely doesn't make me one? Its like saying just cuz Kangana identifies herself as Hrithik's wife means that we should refer to her as Mrs. Roshan.

Not always. Sex and gender are different things. Not everybody's gender may conform to their birth sex.

So is the term "woman" a gender or sex?

I already have. I still don't understand how a woman can demand people to call her a man just because she feels like it. Like why is Elliot asking people to not refer to her as "her"? Other than her feelings, nothing really changed did it?

It's HIS feeling, yes, but we respect him, so we call him by the way he want us to call.
