Opinion: Bigg Boss has peaked

In many ways, BB13 can be argued to be the greatest season of all time in my opinion.

BB7 and BB8 are held in very high regards by many, but personally, I feel like the show was still finding its niche and growing. Gauahar's season was amazing but by today's standards, it would be considered very boring for the most part as not every episode was must-see like later seasons. BB8 ke bareme toh less said the better - Gautam was so heavily favored by the show that no one else really stood a chance and even that one was quite boring especially due to a strong mid-season lull. BB11 was an amazing season with brilliant rivalries, and kind of set the tone for the core of the show being based around rivalry nexuses. It also set the stage brilliantly for Shukla/Rashmi to be an (attempted) redoing of Shilpa/Vikas, but as we know - all that changed because of key players like Asim and Paras.

- The contestants were super diverse and deeply driven. Asim, Shukla, Shehnaaz, Paras, Mahira - these five could have shone bright in any season (some in negative ways, but nonetheless) and in fact, I would argue one of them could have won season 14 quite easily if they featured this year.

- Mid-season lull was brilliantly handled by injecting characters like Arhaan (and the Rashmi drama that followed), Himanshi (and the Asim story that developed), Jariwala, and keeping the long season fresh by switching up format by introducing the secret room and even having multiple rounds of wildcards, including the return of Bagga for a random 1/2 week-long injection of drama and the final round of 'connection' visits.

- The meta storyline was super strong and BB himself was taking part in it as a character. When Asim's popularity was at peak, they suddenly cut his screentime and focused solely on SidNaaz causing strong Asim support against the system. Plus, their violent, lazy, sexist, sore loser favorite Shukla (sorry fans šŸ˜›) made it too easy for casual viewers to see the bias and form the storyline in their own minds.

- Rashmi and Shukla's pre-existing rivalry really helped to set the mood of the show from the beginning, so no time was wasted! Initial groups developed around this conflict and slowly people switched sides but these two always stayed polarized.

- ViRima introduced a whole new angle. While it would be super boring (in my opinion) to see an entire season revolving around them, their duration length and drama was a perfect distraction from the main Shukla-Asim-Sana-Rashmi-Paras dynamic that ruled the season for a few weeks.

Now, especially after the last 2-3 days, I feel like the peak has passed and we are on the downward swing now. The show has become referential. It is relying heavily on its own past. They are not only bringing back people from past seasons en-mass - but they are coming with their own baggage. Manu wants to be captain because he didn't get to be his first round. Vikas and Arshi are imported their own rivalry and keep on referencing their own season. Even BB13 has been referenced so many times, and Eijaz/Pavitra were being mocked as a sasta Shukla/Asim fight when they were getting in each other's faces.

Point is - the season doesn't stand on its own. It relies on the legacy of previous Bigg Boss seasons heavily to bring in viewers, so that means new first-time watching viewers will be totally alienated and won't even try to consistently watch the show. The creative team can pay tributes and include previous contestants as guests, of course, but their focus should be on creating freshness every season. Looking at the state of this show currently, it seems like the show is content with just trying to rehash the past and scraping TRPs. They are no longer trying to break records - they just want to match previous ones.

BB 13 was hit no doubt and somewhere I think audience are still in that zone

(I am personally still stuck in Mar'20 šŸ˜† anyways)

And it didn't help that BB brought it's winner in initial episodes itself .

Bb7 - I guess Gauhar gave BB classic funda of negative publicity is still good publicity for a show like this ( and BB is still milking it to max enraging audience time and again by their questionable stands )

Bb8- was extension of same , it's just Tanna had potential to take that Rivalry till the end šŸ˜†

Making Gautam hero šŸ˜†

BB 13 gave BB funda of bringing strong TV personalities and run season on their personal past/present issues (Gossip šŸ˜†) so even though not one task was successful, BB13 was full on entertaining and happening

This time idk who was that idiot to suggest and bring Seniors in first week itself šŸ¤”

Ppl couldn't really connect with bb14 contestants

And this season BB failed to bring masaledar contestants like Arshi /Shehnaz etc

BB gave them muddas in platter

1) pavjaz ( Ejaz looked reluctant and tbh that wastes Pavitra's potential)

(Ab Ejaz understood ki tab angle pakad Lena Chahiye that🤣)

2). Rubina Vs Ejaz in initial weeks (but isko devar ban na that tabšŸ¤”)

3 Rubina Vs Jas (Aly k exit k BAAD phir see back to square one , wasted that guy's potential for these 🤦)

Aly's exit was such poor move šŸ‘ŽšŸ¼ khud ki mehnat pe Pani 🤣

4 Kavita Vs Rubina ( madam toh ainvyai chalo gai🤣)

5. I saw potential in Rahul Vs Jas too šŸ˜† (but didi ne do din main sry bol Diya)

But in all this BB didn't really invest in most organic Rivalry Rubina Vs Rahul šŸ˜†

Aly k entry k BAAD they kinda sidelined Rahul, Rubina anyways doesn't need any cards ( causes she's popular aur aise buzzless season main it's easy to win lol) and Rahul kitna hi Kar leta, he tried with unnecessary poking and stuff (but it came across pretty annoying and dumb) had BB been smart he should have done repeat of hearts task and keep Rivalry going šŸ˜†

Nikki failed to form anything permanent for her ,

Nishant, Shehzad became victims of Senior concept and went way before time ( imo they would've been more valuable asset than Abhinav)

Jaan was annoying but atleast kept his equations changing

Abhinav šŸ˜‚ decent ok. But this guy literally had a golden chance to win ppl who hated last year's winner šŸ˜‚ Pehle see allies BHI the Ruby /Jas /Pav even Ek was willing

Should have gone all out and played like a boss šŸ˜Ž

But oversmartness k chakkar main kabada kar diya khudka aur Rubina k game Ka šŸ˜•

BB invested in wrong ppl and equations this season.

And contestants are big tube lights

Sab mahanta , innocence aur oversmartness k chakkar main theek se khele hi Nahi šŸ˜”

Another thing that signals the end of the BB peak for me: The inside work has become so referential. I remember last year Paras used to directly attack the creatives quite often (as a joke most of the time). Now, Rahul Mahajan yesterday joked that Vikas might be in creative and even Vikas so obviously opposing it (and BB deliberately showing that part even though it was a very small and inconsequential fight) shows how desperate this season is for any masala at all! šŸ˜†

Just one comment those who think Rubina and Rahul could have been hit. Agar hit hona hota to ho jata. But both were coward/useless/quitter/loser. They were not even capable of stand on their feet, how can they fight. Rahul crying, Rubina sleeping. Their personality is of follower.

BB13 was very boring in early weeks. The maalkin concept was bizzare.

And the last 2 months was a borefest with SidNaaz overdoes.

BB11 > BB5/BB8 > BB7 > BB6 > BB10 > BB13

Haven't followed S4 religiously. S9/S12 don't deserve a mention at all.

I disagree, it takes 1 mega hit season for people to get over the others.

Before BB13, people used to reference BB11, before that they used to reference BB7/BB8, & so on.

So if BB15 becomes a big hit, then new viewers will join & it'll reach new heights/peaks of its own & wouldn't matter what previous seasons were like.

Bigg Boss/Big Brother is such a show/concept that itself hits a reset button every year & hence will never get boring. The gameplay, personalities & in India the mass popularity of the show will always keep it alive/fresh no matter what.šŸ‘šŸ¼

makers wanted to recreate bb13 this time for trp, they already chose not to trust the new set of contestants even before the show started, like some ppl like naina singh, aly goni, and this pratik guy was suppose to enter in day one but they delayed their entry, pratik never even entered, clearly shows makers are not interested in investing in this set of contestants.

and i think this audition stuff the host keeps on saying is all made up, if there was an audition how could some ā€˜boring’ contestant make it to the final cut?! the contestants r less this time i get it its due to the covid situation that is fine

but they forgot even bb13 had low trps at start infact the buzz was even lower than bb14 at the starting weeks, and the concept was a phuski they had to let it go within a week, but this season they forcefully went ahead with the concept.

i feel the scenario would have been completely different if there were no seniors, the accept/reject thing makes no sense, cornering 4 contestants seperately has never been a great idea. like padosi concept in s11 didnt work.

contestants werent that bad tbh. i mean just cause they fight less doesnt make them boring, but yeah most of the fights this time looked scripted and uninteresting.

most of the contestants r good in tasks except for rubina, the one who is most likely to win šŸ˜†rubina was good in tasks in first week too then idk what happened to her after that!

abhinav n jasmin made it to final only because they r colors face, sad to see way better players like aly, rahul n nikki had to go before them. forget them even early evicted contestant like shehzad and nishant were better than them.

if colors didnt interfere, jaan would have been first to go instead of sara, then abhinav instead of shehzad, sara idk but many ppl here claimed shehzad had huge potential.

i still would say nishant n pavitra contributed way more than abhinav in the game, they had more equations n rivalries compared to abhinav, abhinav only did 3 things, ruby ruby, pappu singer and performing in finale task only.

I don't remember people comparing BB11 during BB13 . people in season 11 were all bb material people but outside the house they don't have anything much to offer to their fans. But the season 13 people are a talented bunch and most of them are doing good with careers so their fandoms will not fade away so easily, and will have the buzz for quite a few years.. no matter how good the following seasons will be,BB13 was honestly a phenomenon and will be referenced a lot in the seasons to come. I don't think any other season will have so many hotshots under one roof. I'm concluding this as a person who's has followed BB from season 4. Most of the contestants have their huge fandoms intact even after a year of it ending,I don't remember this happening with any other season

BB11 is referenced a lot more, Vikas & Hina came every year. Shilpa came, Priyank hosted Big Buzz. Now Arshi came.

& BB13 is still fresh on people's mind as it ended on Feb this year, & BB14 didn't become a big hit. By next year, all of it will die down slowly.. & if BB15 becomes a big hit, fans will get over it & a new peak will begin in their minds with the new contestants. As I said, it takes 1 hit season for fans to get over the others.

I still remember people criticizing BB13 cast in it's beginning, as except 3 (Sid, Devo, Rashmi) rest were irrelevant/unknown people.. so we can never tell which season clicks with viewers.
