What ? You haven't met anyone who was a fan of Kajol in 90s ? Have you ever been to Bengal ? 😆 Bengalis have a HUGE HUGE fanbase of Kajol. Her Anjali look was part of every local and big saloons where girls wanted to have a College-Anjali look. 😆 Her dress from Ishq movie went rave in Bengal specially during Pujas. 😆

Anyways, Tabu is not in the same league of any of 90s actress, she is in a league of her own. Cannot be compared at all, it's like comparing Aloo with Konkona Sen Sharma.

Kajol's performance in Gupt, Dushman, SRK movies, Ajay Devgan movies etc. was hugely popular. She was not given chances after chances by single director to prove and sharpen herself. She was good in few movies and bad in some. Same like her contemporaries. Manisha might be a great actor for many, to me she is extremely OTT especially during emotional scenes. Every actress from 90s had some limitations and strength. Kajol was just one of them.

Alia's only predecessor is Kareena if we talk about Nepotism. At least Alia gives Average or Hits, Kareena's entire career is full of flops, still she survives. That is what I'd call Nepotism actually.

IMO back when I was unaware about the world and could watch Bollywood without guilt and peace of mind. Kajol and Manisha Koirala were my fav in terms of talent. Tabu was great too. But some of her movies didn’t have repeat value.

But no longer watching Bollywood. I think Karishma and Aloo compare. Both had overrated talent and looks for that matter.

Good to see so many supporters of Kajol but I do find her extremely overrated in terms of a performer. I can't connect to her acting at all. I always see loudness and OTT expressions, trying to compensate for skills such as nuances, reflexes, inflexes etc. The way she always brings the same acting trope in different movies. She is so repetitive it is alarming.

I don't know how it is unfair to compare contemporaries. Kajol and Tabu are both mainstream actresses of the 90's's and contemporaries at that. Tabu is in a league of her own, I agree. But how is it unfair to compare two mainstream actresses who worked at the same time? And to those who are saying it's like comparing Alia Bhatt and Konkona Sen Sharma, I don't agree at all. Kokona was never a mainstream actress, nor Alia's contemporary.

Forget Tabu, even Urmila is a far better actress than Kajol.

To those who are bringing in stardom, I agree she shot to fame but my point is precisely because of the iconic pairing with SRK.

To those who are saying there is nothing similiar between Kajol and Alia, my points are:

1. Both are overrated

2. Both have received acclaim even when they didn't deserve

3. Both shriek like banshees to prove their acting skills
