No, Omanis 🇴🇲 know a lot about 🇮🇳
Many of them understand Hindi and watch Bollywood movies too😆
The Sultan of Oman who sadly passed away this year in Jan has even studied in India as a child before going to London.
It’s said that he was also privately tutored by Shankar Dayal Sharma who later on became president of India, the Sultan broke all protocol when the president visited Oman and went to receive him on his airport.
India and Oman have a long history of friendship.. you can read online.. Omanis are very sweet, mild mannered and friendly people. If you are in distress everyone will come and help you..
You can read online about them..
By the Mahesh Bhupati, Sneha Ullal, Sarah Jane Dias, Mehar Malik grew up in Oman.
Ignorance is so common in the States regarding ethnicity. Till this very day, Asian = East Asian and Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi = Indian to the vast majority. Like how thick do you have to be to realise India is a part of Asia and the subcontinent is not homogeneous? Geography teachers, do a better job pls!
No racism but Brits didn't have much idea about Indian culture, education, religion etc. But they would ask me questions about anything and didn't have preconceived notions.
Most Europeans were really surprised when they heard me speak English. 😆

I’d probably argue the average Brit probably doesn’t know much about religion full stop. Other than a very rough idea about why Christmas and maybe Easter is celebrated. They probably know more about easter eggs and santa claus than they do about the birth of Jesus and the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ. IMHO religion doesn’t play the same role in the UK as it does the US.
Having said that, there’s no denying they find Indian culture very fascinating. From colour runs that now have nothing to do with Holi to Urban Outfitters selling Indian kurtis and “accessories”, to our “butter chicken and garlic naans”, they love our culture.

Northen Indians call all Southern Indians Madrasi
Cannot be bothered to learn the names of the other southern states
Hope they realize there are more than one southern state and Madras (now Chennai) is just one city in Tamil Nadu, not every South Indian hails from that city
Yes but mostly harmless, in UK people are mostly ignorant about the different subcontinent cultures and baki kami humare kuch over enthu diaspora wale puri kr dete hain(please note I'm talking about some of them and not the diaspora as a whole). They try so hard to stick to the stereotypes ke that becomes our identity here. Bling(weddings weddings and more weddings), Curries(Butter chicken mostly) and BW dance.
My gym trainer(who is a Romanian) once showed me his percieved notion about Indian dancing which was just weird hip thrusts with those silly hand movements. It would have been offensive but uski b kya galti, that's how BW dancing is represented in even Madam Tussads.
They do find our culture interesting. The food(or the Brit version of our food tbh) is a big hit, so are 'Henna tattoos'. I had once worn a jhumka I had bought from CP here in London and most of the women in my team were oohing and aahing so badly😆. Par then the desi guys started (for the lack of a better term) simping, and it became cringey. It's just the over enthusiasm from some people that makes us a bit of a laughing stock.
