Online popularity can do wonders if our Television industry, music industry and film industry starts producing good content
Korean shows and artists have seen unimaginable success because of online audience, at a point it was limited to USA
Sad part is that Indian content is bad everywhere
TRP is limited to a set of audience, BARC or any other agency should tie up with service providers like Tata Sky to get the data from every household instead of making us watch what roughly 50000 people are watching, we are over a billion peopleThere are hardly any shows to attract teenagers
Well BARC has a team of statisticians who decide on what is a good number. TRP is like prediction based on sample set of 30k houses. They have some set confidence intervals and several other parameters. I am sure the statisticians know their work, unlike you and me, and I am sure the prediction should be reasonably accurate. Youād be surprised to know that for certain distributions, even a sample set that might look small is enough to predict with a great accuracy.
About online TRP, India has a very huge population. Canāt be compared with both the US and Korea which are tiny nations in front of India as far as population is concerned. And again, Internet penetration in India is bad compared to developed countries like the US. Even though data rates are one of the lowest in India, the amount of data quota and the speed are major bottlenecks. And again, it is mostly the urban areas which are tech savvy. The rural folk still love their TV sets. So no, Hotstar isnāt overtaking TV by any means. Itās creating an own space for itself, sure! But it is still way behind TV as far as reach is concerned. (I took Hotstar for an example since it is one of the most popular OTT platform in India)
