This problem arises from the lack of respect and recognition TV actors get from their bollywood counterparts. There is a stigma against TV actors which is sad because most of them are brilliant in the trade. Parineeti reportedly refused to work with SSR initially citing that he is a TV actor. I mean, why this bias?
It's not like Hollywood where a soap star like Jennifer Aniston who gained immense and well deserved fame from her character Rachel, on FRIENDS, went on to make it big-one of the richest and still widely loved movie star.
And as a result a lot of our TV stars end up taking mediocre work. I am not a prude and am not against bold scenes but they need to make sense. A lot of the B grade scripts seem to consist of bold scenes with some meaningless, haphazard plot weaved around them. There is a huge crowd who are takers for such movies, ki flop bhi ho(storywise) par khelega. My cousin was telling me that the boys in her college saw Ragini MMS3 5-6 times in the theatre.
The other option for them is low budget films which may not see the light of day ever or till the distant future. Also, after a lot of investment in terms of time, hardwork etc, it's possible it gets halted midway for financial reasons.
There is a need for these actors(their talent and their worth) to be recognised and be considered good enough to invest in. Because they are not just good enough, they're better than many already in bollywood. Which also means that established producers and other investors need to value good scripts.
