CHAPTER-6

she look in the mirror and fix her hair. We leave her room and head back downstairs. "You sure this is just a casual thing? You sure not anything more than just nightstands." he asked.

"Most definitely.", she answered.

They go back to the backyard and found Hanuman Singh serving the food . Mini and Neil sit with her cousins at a table. "Y'all were gone for a good minute," her cousin Isha says with a smirk on her face.

"How long were we gone?", Mini inquired.

"Like 45 minutes. Hour tops."

“I don’t think it’s any of your ‘BUSINESS ‘”,said Neil rudely while sending shiver to mini as he spoke the very last word.

"That's it, 45 minutes, it felt like two hours." Minni frown "I got a whole lecture." Said mini trying to cover up.

"That's what you needed to learn to stay out of another person's personal business. Especially mine."

Mini move her left land to his thigh and look up at him. "I said I was sorry."

His jaw tightens and she smiles and moved her hand away from his thigh.

"Tell us about you,"Bobby, Minni's another cousin says.

"We already know enough. We don't need to be up in his business."Says Minni

"Like you were," Isha retorts.

"No it's fine," Neil replies.

"I graduated high school at 17 went to medical college to become a doctor on a two year scholarship. After that I went to the Army for 6 years they helped pay for college and I helped them."

"The army?" Minni’s heart drops and she can hardly breathe.

"Yes, I was in the Army, I really wanted to become a doctor. My family wasn't much rich to pay for such a prestigious and expensive medical college. my Mom died when I was in standard 4 or so and from a brain tumor. My father married someone else mainly to look after me as I was too young to handle all that agony. Initially it took time but soon she created an irreplaceable place in my life. Though I sometimes miss my mom but that hardly means I don’t love my alive one . No comparisons. " Tears fill Mini's eyes. She didn't know any of this. She touched his hand underneath the table and he looks at her. "I didn't know that."

"You never asked. Besides I don't really tell people about my past."

"Is that the reason you decided to become a brain surgeon?" Bobby asks.

"Yea, that's part of the reason, but honestly I can do any type of surgery just as good as brain surgery. But I chose the brain because it's a bigger challenge I guess, one move can change someone's life good or bad, but most of my outcomes are good."

"What was one of your favorite surgeries?" Mini asks.

"Well other than your mom of course," he laughs and so does everyone else around us.

"Good answer," Bobby replies

Mini smiled again. Something she can't seem to stop doing when she with him.

“ Ugggh, no Minni you can't fall for him.” She scolded herself.

"That's amazing," Bobby says interrupting her thought.

She noticed Isha who had not spoken a word since Neil’s last rude reply to her which isn’t usual probably she didn’t liked Neil’s behaviour and so didn’t Minni.

“So how is Ritwik jiju?”, Minni asked to lit up her mood.

“Bussiness trip. Hopefully will return next week", Isha answered disinterested.

The word “Business “ made Minni blush.

Her cheeks hurt from smiling so much and her hand hasn't let go of his hand underneath the table. He offers to throw their plates away. They hand him their plates and while he is gone Isha looks at Minni. "You like him? Isn’t it?”

"No, of course not, I hardly know him. What are you talking about, man? I'm just gonna go see if he needs help." She quickly get up from her seat and head over to Neil who is talking to Hanuman Singh by the balcony upstairs. She walk up to her dad.

"I'm going to leave you two alone."

Minni shake her head and look at Neil who has a broad smile on his face.

"What are you smiling at?", she asks

He takes a step closer and she take a step back.

"Nothing. It's nothing."

"My family seems to like you." Minni say softly.

"You say it like it's a bad thing," He says taking another step forward.

"It is," Minni say taking another step back.

"Supposed-to-be-one-night-stands aren't supposed to meet the family."

He bites his lips and moves closer. She take a step back and her foot touches the stairs and she fall in.

She closes her eyes in fear and in anticipation but to her surprise any of flesh was not hurting. She opened her eyes and there she was in his protective arms saving her from falling and getting hurt and his soulful intense eyes looking straight into hers. Minni lost in the intensity of the moment. She couldn’t take her eyes off him until she heard Babita screaming from behind.

“Minni...are you okay?”, she asked.

“Yeah...mom..Yeah....I am all good", she said while distancing herself from Neil and examining that everyone’s eyes were sticked on them.

“You...okay?”, Neil asked in concern.

Minni nodded vertically.

He smiles and pushes back a strand of hair from her face. She smiles back.

"Thank you," she says as she push back a piece of fallen hair from his face.

He laughs and pushes back a strand of hair from her face. She smiles again.

“are you gonna just thank me like this?”, he raised his eyebrows.

“Yes"

He stepped a foot closer and she again stepped back blushing.

“We'll see that at night....more ways to thank you", she winked.

He smiled.

"You're not that bad

'supposed-to-be-one-night-stand'.”, she continued.

"I told you."

"Everyone is staring at us."

"Let them, they already want us to date, feed their eyes."

She smile and bite her lip. He smirks. "It's been an eventful day."

"Yeah," she says as she look up at him. "Especially when you f**ked me upstairs."

"Punishment.Should have kept your mouth shut."

she cup his ear and whisper, "Maybe I should keep it open." she say leaving a light kiss on his ear. He smiles and looks at her before she left.

Everyone started to leave and she walked to see him off.

“so when are mom and dad leaving?”

“Mom and dad?”, Minni gave a confused look.

“Yours...ofc"

“yes! Mine. Then how come you called them so instead of Mr.&Mrs. Singh?”,she retorted for skme unknown reasons. Maybe a part of her was not willing to let him go.

“Because you are walking away with Neil...just Neil ...not some doctor Oberoi. And thus so they are here ...mom and dad.”

“They would have been if we would have been something more than just nightstands. But we not are and surely not gonna be”, she tried to reason not realising when her words pierced through Neil’s heart. Though he knew the fact she put forward was true but strange to him he didn’t liked it and he failed to justify why it was hurting him.

“So you mean my presence don’t affect you?”, he asks.

“No...not at all"

“You sure...I don't make any imapct on you?"he asked as he came closer to her.

“Very sure Dr. Oberoi”

“So Miss. Minni get ready to get proved wrong", he promised as he freed her from his clutches not before giving a quick peck on her lips.

"You coming over tonight?" he asks

"I think we had enough for today.

Don't you think?"

"Never enough."

She giggle. "Call me tomorrow."

“Don’t you wanna thank me for saving you then precious"

“Fine...will see you at 8”, she winked.

"Alright," he replies as he closes the car door. She watch him drive off. Though Minni didn’t admit ...though she knew he was just pissing her off but a part of her was attained a strange contentment. She liked the way Neil referred her parents as his. She was smiling.
