Better still read one of the gazillion adaptations out there. The Amar Chitra Katha comics alone made Mahabharata simple and accessible to millions of Indian kids. For a proper grown up version Ramesh Menon's The Mahabharata: A Modern Rendering is one of the best out there. It's on kindle but it's pretty long though.So feel free to skip ahead and ditch all the ancestors' story.

As for Rajneeti, the deleted scenes in the DVD provide some explanation. Just as it happened with Karna, Ajay Devgn's character also suffered humiliation at the party meeting when he came to demand a seat. At this time Manoj Bajpai was the only one who came to his help and appointed him in some important position. So Ajay is pretty grateful. One of the deleted scenes show Ajay's people approaching him and asking him to cut ties with Manoj Bajpai. Let the Family fight it out among themselves was their opinion. But Ajay refused to abandon Manoj at the latter's lowest point. Poor Ranbir's mother. All her sons turn out to be killers. Or rather two stone cold killers and one hot blooded psycho. Ajay arranged the killing of her husband, Arjun Rampal killed the SP and his lover, Ranbir killed Ajay as well as the politician who switched loyalties.

Red: Ohhh I was not able to understand properly as I thought Ajay is a person who doesn't value others and wants to be successful himself...but yeah now I understand. He was just like his mother, his mother had also turned against her father and gave herself to him. But Naseeruddin went a d she forgot everything. That's why Ajay had said that he wouldn't repeat her mistake ...

Blue : yeah poor her, had to go through so much in life already, lost both her lover and husband, also her first born .

Well she forgot her political aspirations. But can't exactly blame her. What with giving birth to an illegitimate child and then the said child being taken away from her forcefully. She finally agreed to marry her father's choice just to cement a political alliance and move on. But she never completely forgot Ajay. She always gave alms to the poor on his birthday. Another nod to the Karna connection was naming Ajay's character Suraj what with Karna being Surya's son.

No. Nana Patekar never told him the truth. Just like his counterpart Krishna didn't tell the truth to Arjun. Why pile on the guilt? Ajay's father knew and forgave Ranbir. But Manoj Bajpai's paralyzed father never gave his blessings when Ranbir goes to meet him before leaving India.

It turned into a joke when top political family started killing each other just at their whim , lost all touch with reality they based in first half

Could never understand why ranbir acting was seen as soon good in that movie. He was average at best for me.

it was like vyas mahabharath meets mario puzos godfather. so the drama was designed accordingly. it was an engaging multistarrer.
