LOL, this is a perfect opportunity to discuss some scrutiny worthy tracks of SP MB.

Like Arjun being a part of Rukmini haran 🤣

Kalyavan kidnapping Subhadra 😆

And so on.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

@Bold - That too as Brihannala. I think SPMB overestimated certain things and forcibly inserted Starjuna in every damn thing. But then it was toned down. 😆

True true. Arjun was the whole and sole of the show initially but later I think Draupadi onwards they stabilised a lot.

Even the initial banter of Arjun Subhadra seems impossible.

I think Star Plus was trying to establish how Krishna and Arjuna became friends.

They first met at Panchali swayamvara. There is no mention of friendship then or at any of the events which immediately follow. Even when Arjuna went to Dwaraka, Krishna had to be told of the events which led to the exile. If they were friends at the time, Krishna would've known.

If you go by a human interp...

Khandava burning was a horrific event. Genocide part aside, if you look at the layout of the nations, the fire was set from 2 sides. 3rd side was Yamuna with its crocodiles. 4th side was left open as escape route. The burning was intended to drive out Nagas. Problem came when Indra arrived. The devas were focused on Krishna, and Arjuna essentially saved Krishna.

Also to note: some of the Nagas were escaping via the side Krishna was covering. ie, the site where the women were camped. Imagine what the Nagas would've done to Panchali and Subhadra. The scene where Krishna prevents just that is disturbing to read. He was slaughtering the escaping Nagas left and right. I think Vyasa used the word "demon." During this time, Arjuna was fighting the deva contingent and keeping Krishna safe.

The argument can be made the lives and safety of 2 women were not worth all the Naga deaths. They were clearly worth it to Krishna and Arjuna.

After Khandava dahana is when Krishna first claimed friendship with Arjuna. That kind of ordeal creates a bond between soldiers/warriors.

Problem for Star Plus was for them to show it, they'd have to be blunt about what exactly was happening with Khandava dahana which they clearly didn't dare do. So they made up those Bollywood bromance/romance stories between the characters.

Well known but with slight twist:

1. Draupadi's earlier birth was as Nalayani. Nalayani had prayed to Shiva for a husband with five qualities. Not finding such a man, Shiva said that in her next birth she would wed five husbands with these qualities.

Now, in MBH, there's the story of Nala & Damayanti. Nala, like Yudhisthira was invited for a dice game which he lost. Nala however was wiser than Yudhisthira in knowing when to stop. He lost kingdom n riches but not himself and neither did he stake Damayanti, his wife.

Nala & Damayanti had two children, one of which was Nalayani. It's anybody's guess whether this Nalayani is the same as the Nalayani in the five husband story.

Kavita Kane has clubbed these two together in her book Ahalya's awakening. Don't know how much is true. She has further clubbed Nalayani being wife of Rishi Mudgala. But ultimately, she has made Draupadi in earlier birth as the mother of Ahalya. Lol.

No clue regarding authenticity.

2. This links Ramayana & Mahabharata together. During Uttar kanda, when Rama asks Sita to give Agni Pariksha just before going back to Ayodhya, he calls upon Agni dev to bring back real Sita & take back Maya Sita. This Maya Sita is supposedly Draupadi.

@bold-

I have heard this story somewhere..no clue abt the source..but Draupadi is claimed to be the incarnation of Maya sita..some claim Draupadi to be the incarnation of goddess Lakshmi..is that true???

Drapaudi is called sri/laxmi by vaishampanya several times in the text.

I've read this somewhere (online article) that Karn was the incarnation of Sugreev. And since Sugreev had tricked and killed Bali, he was cursed to be born again as Karn.

Not this way exactly but I had read somewhere that during Ram Avatar, Vishnuji had helped the son Suryadev (Sugreev) by killing the son of Indraji (Bali) by deceit, hence in Krishna Avtaar, He did the reverse to maintain balance, He helped the son of Indradev (Arjun) by asking him to kill the son of SuryaDev (Karna) by deceit.

This is Devdutt Pattanaik's opinion as well. In Jaya it's mentioned -

In the 15th century, Kabi Sanjay wrote the Mahabharata in Bengali in which Chitrangada dies of tuberculosis and Vichitravirya is killed by Bhishma’s pet elephant when he, despite express instructions not to do so, enters Bhishma’s palace while Bhishma is away.

The name Vichitravirya is derived from ‘vichitra’ meaning odd and ‘virya’ meaning masculinity, suggesting that Vichitravirya was either a weakling or impotent or sterile, or perhaps asexual or homosexual, lacking manliness, unable or unwilling to get a bride for himself.

I've always been fascinated by the name Vichitravirya. It obviously had some hidden meaning. It's also not insignificant that his wives had to be pregnated by Maharshi Vyas.

Most of the stories quoted here are masala that has no basis in original Mahabharat - most are made up by kathakaars to make things interesting or to show the effects of Karma. The lesser known stories related to sex and progeny are very interesting, but unfortunately too taboo to discuss.... Like Vasu Uparichar's seed, Satyavati's and Kunti's pre-marital kids. Ganga approaching Shantanu's father Tapti for marriage before approaching Shantanu (this throws off the whole Mahabhishak theory)
