Battle scenes have both Arjuna and Shikhandi shooting. Even when Bheeshma falls, he insists it's not because of Shikhandi's arrows. ie, some of the arrows WERE Shikhandi's. Bheeshma simply didn't want to admit it.

When he finally decided to withdraw, Arjuna was the one who severed all his weapons and pierced him.

The 7 Vasus approached Ganga and cursed Arjuna after Bhishma's fall which resulted in the latter being killed by his son Babhruvahana. He was later revived.

No harm in giving credit where it's due. Even if we go by accepted tale and ignore the contradictions, Arjuna didn't do it by himself. Not only Shikhandi, all Pandavas were there to help.

I understand what you mean, but the special mention of Shikhandi and that Bheeshm wouldn't hit Shikhandi (when he clearly did that) becomes useless. Why start with that narrative at all..

Definitely to being an impression that he died due to his non active participation.

Aside we are now going by the narrator and the author. During that time, none of them knew that they would become iconic and legendary for thousands of years with each action of theirs minutely observed

They had to the face saving only for the people of that time and for a few generations later.

The name of the killer is different in different places. I guess this in itself is a proof that things aren't that straight as mentioned

I don't believe in curses or reincarnation to begin with.😆 Plus, Bheeshma WAS shooting at Shikhandi. Also, as FP mentioned, 2 different names are mentioned as the slayer of Bheeshma. One such mention of Shikhandi was in Arjuna's presence, no less, and by his fan/good friend, Satyaki. The second was by Krishna who was definitely there as opposed to the narrator who wasn't.

Then, there is Arrjuna's continued reluctance even after to kill anyone from the other side. Remember, Drona masterminded ABhimanyu vadh. Even then, Arjuna could not bring himself kill his guru.

Situation is plenty murky on who exactly killed Bheeshma.

Regarding that myth of non-participation and the alleged face saving, it doesn't make sense when one careful reading dispels it. If the alleged thing was actually intended, verses would have mentioned BS like weapons being dropped. Non-readers even believe the folklores. 🤷‍♀️

How is this possible as his sons thro’ Draupadi and Subhadra got killed? 🤔
