Sunday Nostalgia: A gem of a film (Dor)

The best film of 2006 to me is not Dhoom 2 or Lage Raho Munnabhai, but this underrated gem called Dor. I remember crying when I watched it in the theatre. It was such an emotional yet powerful film, it tugged at the heartstrings. It depicts feminism whilst keeping it real --- when two very different worlds collide.

The best part about the film is Ayesha Takia. Stripped of all makeup and glam factor, all she is left with is a sweet doll-like countenance, bushy eyebrows and the ability to strut her acting prowess. And she goes for the kill with an award-winning performance.

Omg I watched this on TV the other day...amazing film! Ayesha was so pretty as well as talented, I’m so annoyed she quit films so early....to think she’s actually in the same age range as Shraddha, Kriti, Bhumi etc....and YOUNGER than PC, Kareena 🙃🙃

Ayesha is in the same age range as Sonam, Deepika, Shraddha, Sonakshi etc. (1985 born) but I agree, she quit films too early and opted for a regular married life. It's a pity, bcoz she was really talented and could have made a bigger and better name for herself.

I even like Gul Panag...she's adorable with those dimples. She has screen presence too. I liked her in Turning 30 also.

Yea wonderful little film.

One of my favorite movies. The performances were so nuanced and the story, way ahead of its time. The movie never got dull or boring for me. Will watch it again now.

Yeah it’s too bad...the industry lost a pretty, talented outsider who was actually doing really well too 😕... Ayesha was WAY better than Sonam and Shraddha for sure!

Hello. Can anyone help me with a query regarding this movie. I have seen it many years back and don't remember everything about it.

In the movie ayesha's character is of a young village women. But her accent and her way of speaking is very polished at times. I remember a scene where she is talking on phone. Phone is a novelty for her but she says "hello" in an absolute confident urban tone. Even during other dialogues be it rajasthani or hindi, she has got no accent. Is it mentioned in ths movie that may be she used to be a city girl or something before marrying her husband and moving to village. Or she being educated ( as far as i remember she wasn't) or it's just plain inconsistency?

On topic : whatever i remember of dor, it seems pretty great. I would very much like to rewatch it. Yeh hosla is one of my all time favorites.

Feminism is the struggle for equality between the sexes. I think you're confusing it with female solidarity which is on display here. Great film.
