@Sam: thanks dear, I have started seeing things better since I started interacting with you guys on this AT, it has really helped me understand kuku better beyond the obvious drama & the negative light that they are tried to be shown in
Oh and also, Abir became even more important to Kunal once he found out his birth truth because his relationship with Abir is the only long-standing one that doesn't change dramatically. Meenu is dragged into the two moms dilemma, he knows she threatened to throw him out at least once and might have actually done it if it weren't for Abir, and his relationship with the rest of the RVs is totally dependent on her acceptance/rejection of him as a son. He's not biologically related to most of the people he has always considered family, and his bio mom is someone who he never had a relationship with.
That way, his haan mein haan milaoing with Abir is his reaction to his birth truth. He is clinging to the one relationship that stays stable through this upheaval. Abir is his only undeniable link to the RVs.
My comments are in blue
now along with character development in Kunal I also want to see an improvement in his EQ levels, hope the writers are listening- For sure Kunal needs to be able to express his emotions, not just for Kuhu, but for all situations he is put in.
thats the journey kunal is on, but is trying his best to avoid
as sam mentioned: "but this is the beauty of their sort of opposite journeys. Kuhu wanted to be Kunal's wife but is constantly confronted with the fact that she is so much more than that, Kunal never wanted to give in to his own desires and live solely for others, but he finds himself on this journey to being Kuhu's husband. "
but as viewer it was clear that he was falling for her during their friendship phase, their was a scene of kuku in the car after their musical night at the pub where mishbir sing 'saathiya mere', therein during kuku's conversation kunal compliments kuhu 'tum apni life mein kaafi sorted ho' & he thinks in his head, 'ye apni behan se kitni alag hai, baat sun bhi rahi hai aur samajh bhi rahi hai', so for the things that he hated mishti like manmani, zid, arguments, he liked kuhu because he found her being totally opposite of mishti in all those things - I view those scenes from a different lenses, they were platonic from Kunal's perspective, he liked Kuhu yes but not in the sense she liked him. I believe when Meenu rejected Kuhu as a prospective for Kunal, he could no longer view her as someone he could be with, especially when he knew his Meenu would oppose this.
again quoting Sam :
@bold: see there are 3-4 scenes where kunal has mentioned about his feelings for kuhu, so the 1st one was that back hug scene, where he imagines kuhu & is shocked for his imagination, that makes him doubt about his feelings for her - Yes and this is the scene, I wanted an extension for. Kunal to have enough time to explore his feelings, even if it were just a developed affection for Kuhu which is why he can't let her leave.
then there was this scene where he gifts her the saree, just before that he has this conversation with parul maasi where he realises 'jab bhai aur mishti ek fresh start kar sakte hain toh main aur kuhu kyun nahi, par jo maine kuhu ke saath kiya kya uske baad wo mere saath kisi bhi tarah ki life banana chahegi?' - This one I agree with, he questioned his actions and if they could be forgiven, but it wasn't about his feelings.
and after gifting her the saree, standing outside the room he thinks 'please kuhu mere liye wo saree pehan lo' (my understanding is that kuhu wearing his saree would mean for kunal, her acceptance to give their marriage a 2nd chance)
but kuhu doesnt wear the saree so he goes & confronts her 'meri feelings ki koi bhi importance nahi hai'
again he complains 'tumhe real feelings ki value nahi hai, jaise mere gift uss saree ki nahi ki', during mishbir sangeet theme discussion on terrace - Again what feelings are we talking about, like Abir mentioned is Kuhu supposed to read your mind?
thats the character development we are hoping for, right? him acknowledging his feelings, infact the very fact that he is allowed to feel & have opinions, even if they are not in line of parivaar ki ekta or against abir's or meenu's wishes
Like you mentioned its mostly because of his EQ, but I feel its lower just for Kuhu. He has a higher leve EQ for Abir, he was so broken when he had an argument with Abir or when Abir left to find Mehul and also for Mishti, now that they are one unit.
abir leaving to find mehul triggered kunal because he felt he failed meenu by not being able to keep abir home & he also feared of consequences of baba coming back because everyone was unhappy, remember naanu fell sick
abir choosing mishti made him insecure because abir had started being different, remember he bought celphone & didnt share his number with anyone, he went to champaner with mishti & hid this from everyone, so kunal was insecure that 'mishti abir ko humse dur kar rahi hai'
abir choosing mishti over kunal just solidified his insecurity because he had chosen to save his bhai over his so-called friendship with kuhu(just imagine this guy who is so robotic being salty over his brother choosing his love because he himself sacrificed his friendship, (a platonic relationship, a girl who was just a friend) for his brother, I mean will kunal be angry with abir because he had to sacrifice a friendship, what more proof one needs for kunal's feelings, he was clearly upset because he ruined his chances with kuhu because he liked or rather had feelings for her)
Kuhu could yell what she wants from Kunal, from the rooftop and Kunal still wouldn't understand.
I can get on board with the fact that Kunal has feelings for Kuhu, but he is yet to fully accept and express the. Looking at way show is going, I am sure it will take another high moment for Kunal to finally start expressing his emotions towards everything.
I really want to know where does Kunal stand in everything, what his un-influenced opinion or action might be in various situations. I dont want him being Meenu's boy, or Abir's Nanko. I want Kunal, we all just want Kunal.

Exactly! So far, we haven't seen that because he only verbalised his feelings for Kuhu when he thought that Meenu had accepted her so his desires did not conflict with parivar ki ekta, and in fact worked for it. He thinks he's played it safe and covered all the bases, but he didn't account for Kuhu's sensitivity around all things Mishti and Meenu's stealthy exploitation of the tension between the sisters. We are yet to see what happens when a Kunal who has already committed to Kuhu (which he was careful not to do until he thought she was indispensible to the family) is faced with the very choice he worked so hard to avoid.

Definitely! But, as he told Abir the night before the divorce, he is yet to figure out who he is apart from being Meenu ka munna or Abir's nanko. As peace pointed out, the family drama is preventing him from having the time and space to do that.
That dialogue actually says a lot. "Bas bhai, mujhe kya pata vo mujhse alag hai ki nahi. Main to khud abhi discover kar raha hoon main kaisa hoon. Maine uske saath kitna galat kiya, usse jhoot bola, usse zabardasti shaadi ki. Ye sab jaane ke baad bhi vo mere saath rahi, is ghar mein rahi, meri family ke saath rahi aur itni pyar se ki meri family mein mujhse zyada vo important ho gayi... Vo bahut alag hai bhai, she's very different. Aur jaane anjaane mein vo humare liye itni important ban gayi ki mein nahi chahta ki vo is ghar se meri life se jaaye. Main usse kisi bhi keemat pe jaane nahi de sakta bhai. Main ye shaadi chahta hoon."
So basically Kunal doesn't know what he feels because he doesn't know himself. As he said to Kuhu when they burned their divorce papers, he's still learning just how much he can matter to one person, and how much one person can matter to him because he never believed himself capable of those feelings. What he does know is that Kuhu is important to him and this family and that he can't let her go at any cost.
In the end, "love" is just a label we choose to give our feelings. Kuhu seems to understand that Kunal shies away from that label, but it doesn't necessarily reflect his lack of feelings.
@Sam: exactly👍🏼 well-put❤️

I think thats the reason he tries to shut kuhu up all the time, infact also mocking her in front of others, so that she retreats & stops questioning him
maybe he is trying to avoid reaching that stage of choosing because he knows things are moving in that direction
because I dont think he is dumb and also understands that he & kuhu both feel deeply about each other & will choose each other over other things/relationships, but he doesnt want that stage to come where he has to make a choice because it will ruin all his ab tak ki mehnat?

Ooh, good point! This makes a lot of sense
I also believe that he understands the situation, and is doing everything in his power to neutralise the conflict so it doesn't escalate like it did when Meenu made Abir choose.
Phew! You guys are too much 😳
It took me 2 days to read everything 😲
Very interesting conversations.. I like how we are talking more from Kunal's perspective. You guys covered everything so nothing to add or comment 😆
Ria.. I loved your OS! Please continue. How about daily 1 episode? 😛 We can switch the focus unlike tv where you can give us 15 minutes of KuKu and 3 min of others Or at least weekend episodes but then they should be maha episodes where there's lots of KuKu romance ☺️
Kaveri and Ritvik's wardrobe was so effing hot back then and now she gets those transparent ruffled shirts and he gets the 70s suits that I hate 👎🏼
Those old pics Some bring back good memories and some bad. I especially hate then time when Kunal used to mistreat her - the cake smearing one is the worst
Anyone else misses Kaveri's nosering? I thought she looked cute. Maybe Kuhu can wear it sometime now which will attract #dufferchokro and jagao his heart 😆
I'm still unhappy with Kunal's adhoora sorry and them not having a heart to heart after divorce but that's what it is.
It's too cliche to say for just 2 days but I missed you guys 🤗
Hope I'll be more active! Just don't run through pages 😳 *feels like a mom chiding kids* *SNAP OUT Nami this is IF*

@Nikki: I think Kunal had also just fired Kuhu from Red Pear at this point, so that look is partly guilt about that, but mostly a look that conveys the sentiment, "agar Mishti humari beech mein nahi aati to humari kahani kuch aur ho sakti thi" 😭
Thanks for reminding me of the details Sam. I have started to forget the details from the initial episodes. Looks like have one more reason to binge-watch old KuKu scenes. Great! 😆
@ bold: Loved that dialogue. I believe Kunal was totally into Kuhu when they first met. He was mesmerized by her when she was walking down the stairs on the day they went to MA house to fix KuKu's rishta. I don't remember him ever looking at Mishti like that. If Meenu had not swapped the proposal, I am sure there would be a KuKu baby by now 😃
