The more I watched, the more I loved sweet, sorted Varsha and all her relationships -- I think her abiding friendship with Akshara has to be my favourite though! I love that they always gave their friendship priority over the bhabhi-nanad relationship. ❤️

I wrote this analysis in a PM to a friend around September, and that heartbreaking "mumma--ma" scene reminded me of it so I thought I'd share it here as well.

I really believe the key to Kuhu's character is Varsha. She loves and admires the heck out of her mom, and emulates her behaviour as much as she can. Varsha not only forgave her husband's infidelity with time, but even accepted Kuhu as her own child. That takes someone with a really big heart. On top of that she fought for Kuhu all her life. In my eyes, Varsha is the sole reason Kuhu is the confident, self-assured girl she is today, and for that reason Kuhu totally idolises her mother. So part of her resentment also comes from seeing how her mom, who is actually much more down to earch and sensible, is constantly treated as subordinate to her grandparents.

And this is where Mishti comes in, because of this really unusual situation, where the grandparents and parents have children of the same age. Mishti, in being the daughter of BM and BP automatically gets a higher position in the family hierarchy with less accountability -- as we see, she only has to answer to BM and BP. Kuhu, is answerable to her parents who are in turn answerable to theirs. I think most of Kuhu's resentment towards Mishti comes from these underlying inequalities -- their clashing personalities added fuel to the fire. Is it Mishti's fault directly? Not always. But does she rile up Kuhu's anger against this underlying inequality and bring out the worst in her with her patronising attitude? Definitely.

Now, if we observe the details closely, we can see that Varsha mostly raised Kuhu to tolerate the inequality in her family for as long as she had to and then get out of it as soon as possible (through marriage). Other than her occasional outbursts, Kuhu did just that in pretending to have this sisterly bond with Mishti. Varsha, for the most part, is extremely pragmatic. She sees that there isn't much scope to challenge BM and BP's authority or their hypocrisy without tearing the whole family apart, so she grits her teeth and pretends to be okay with it, all while equipping Kuhu to really shine once she is free of this household. This is why Varsha and Kuhu were so eager for her marriage right from the beginning of the show -- they lived their lives, trying not to raise their voices, not rebelling, pretending everything was great, with the single goal to get Kuhu out of this toxic environment as soon as possible (it's a totally different set of questions as to why marriage was the only way to do this, but I am thinking here within in the universe of the show, where that seems to be a given).

This is why Kuhu can't just walk out on this marriage so easily. She knows this wedding is the culmination of Varsha's lifetime of work, tolerating inequality and fighting for her, and this relationship with the RVs breaking would essentially render all of that work obsolete. That is also why both of them, in full acknowledgment that it was wrong to separate lovers, tried to keep Mishti and Abir apart -- that is just how important this marriage is to both of them: it's supposed to be Kuhu's escape and Varsha's peace of mind. And the thing is, Kuhu was ready for an arranged marriage, meaning she was ready to do the work of getting to know both her husband and his family over time -- so other than Kunal's antagonism (which is not even constant, with all the promising moments), what she is experiencing is exactly what she was prepared for, and so she is shining.

I think this is where the extreme reaction of the slap came from. The one thing Kuhu was most terrified about was hurting her mom or giving her any sense of failure -- she said so to Kunal multiple times. Kuhu would have done just about anything to protect Varsha and just when she thought she would succeed, she had to watch her mom's heart break for absolutely no reason. 💔

Every time Kuhu tries to sort things out slowly and carefully, Mishti comes tearing through with an impulsive move that ends up in the very destruction Kuhu was trying to avoid. It's not hard to see why she finally lost her patience, especially when that destruction involved the person she loves and admires most in the world this time around. 😔

Oh my god! What an analysis 👏

Reading this makes all the more sense and adds depth to Kuhu's reactions. I'm seriously speechless after reading your analysis. You should put this up in the main forum so others can also read it. The writers also might've not gone into this detail. Take a bow! Add me to your fans list ⭐️

Sp is really egoistic channel and don't give free hand to creative so blaming makers is not always right because channel is also interfering.

Sanjivini is going off air.Their makers confirm ed we can't help everything is in channel hands right from track to dialogues to scenes. They get trp scene wise & then decide which track will give them more trp.If it fails then show is cancelled.

Since the last monthes of 2019 there was some rumours SP will be Revamp in early 2020 with Finite Series and their all long running shows which completed at least year will be off air 😃 And now many their shows going off air and some shows ending rumours are coming. I think they started the Off Air saga with low rating shows to decent rating shows. They'll shut down other running shows too which are currently safe in up coming monthes Except YRKKH ; I doubt it'll ever GO Off Air 😆 😆 So, I guess they're not counting Ratings this time to end their shows!

SP is Full On REVAMP Mood 😆

Bold : YES 😆

Oh Sam!! You've analysed their relationship so beautifully! I haven't seen the older YRKKH episodes but you're making me want see how this mother-daughter duo evolved to be what they are now.

I had never understood why she was so focused on how Varsha will handle the news of the divorce but now, the scenes would definitely hold more meaning when I finally see them.

I have been wanting to suggest this for a few days now so I'll finally say it. You should do episode/story analysis posts. You have such different perspectives and such a deeper understanding of the story and the characters. If you don't want to, that would also be okay but do keep sharing your views on this AT. Also, I have no clue what you do in real life but I truly think you could be a great writer.

Thank you all for loving and appreciating the analysis so much! I am so loving this AT as a safe space for an alternative reading of the show and characters. I feel that the show is written on two levels -- there's the plot that keeps moving forward and is more obviously geared towards melodrama and taking sides, but then there is the characterisation where I find that if you look closely at the details, you can infer very interesting backstories/motivations for characters who don't get much screen time. The fact that this is a spin-off and some of the characters have up to a decade of backstory makes this even richer! That is where my reading of Kuhu and Varsha's relationship comes from and that is what keeps me interested in this show despite the plot constantly pulling the viewer towards a more simplistic reading.

A few things...

@Snow: I think Abir *could* have been to Kunal what Varsha was to Kuhu but he was never around long enough. Abir's first priority was always rebelling against BB and expressing his anger over his father's absence. And so Kunal ended up constantly torn between the older brother who he looked up to, and whose guidance he craved but who was never around, and the mom who never quite understood his feelings but was the one who was actually physically present for him, especially when he needed support.

@Meera: When the show started, @DQ and I had discussed how lovely and apt the title is because it revolved around all different kinds of non-normative parent-child relationships and family structures. I do believe that this was deliberate on some level, but in the execution, I completely agree that the focus has been skewed towards melodrama. Even so, if you watch the show with certain filters and don't take their word for who is "positive" and "negative" then there is a lot of substantial story to enjoy.

@aqua: There wasn't actually too much to discover in the parent show, just the joy of seeing Varsha with little Kuhu (who was adorable!), and of course, learning more about Varsha's own history. Most of the analysis here comes from what I saw of their relationship in the early days of the show -- how Varsha fought for Kuhu's marriage, her right to marry the person she loved (against incredible resistance), and how Kuhu blossomed and thrived once she was out of the Maheshwari household, even when Kunal was not in her corner.

Thanks for the encouragement, but I think I will keep my thoughts in this AT! It's peaceful and cozy and open-minded, and I am excited about continuing discussion here.

It looks like both Mishbir and Kuku are getting married - kya bakwaas hai yeh yaar!

How and why is it necessary for Kunal and kuhu to get married again?

They are seriously going to have kuhu running back into kunals arms without any proper dialogue arent they. 😒

Found a beautiful pic

After seeing the pic of Ajiya and Arsal, I thought it would great to have a KuKu vm with the Suno Chanda title song.

"chale jaoge jab mujhe chod kar tum, tumhe yaad kya meri aaya karegi,

har ek lamhe mein tumhe baandh loonga, na qissa karunga na baatein banegi"

Even worse, writers have started the Kuhu negative. The whole purpose of not dragging out the divorce and focusing on Kuku as a separate pair is to make Kuhu another villain in Mishbir story, since Meenu is good and they probably cant find a good villain, so well here is Kuhu another parallel lead, lets not waste that lets make her negative and get few more months of drama.

So while everyone is mad at Kuhu for ruining MishBir's shaadi plans, I'm over here steaming that all it took was for Kunal to say "I love Kuhu" for her to melt. Like seriously dude, what the actual hell? Kunal was such a jerk to you. If I can remember how much he screamed at you on your wedding night and the numerous times he insulted you, why can't you? Where is your sense of self respect? At this point, it's just pathetic how she's so ready to throw herself back into Kunal's arms. Aaj ki ladki ho, toh aaj ki ladki banke dikhao, Kuhu. Being married is not the only way to remain independent from your maika.

I just had another thought not a good one, but might be intriguing. So writers have decide Kuhu is going to be negative for a while. What if marrying Kunal is Kuhu's plan to stay at Rajvansh house to get her haq and get back at Mishti.

Kuhu told BB that she doesnt want to be with Kunal, I almost wonder if Kuhu hasnt forgiven Kunal fully, and we might see a reversal of KuKu SR scene from before, but now Kuhu rejects Kunal, she makes it clear to him that she only married him to keep MA separate. Kunal might be seen as protecting MA while trying to bring Kuhu to her senses. This way the writers can further drag on the drama, without moving forward either couple's romance.

Just a thought guys! Even though I have been against Kuhu being negative, I am also looking forward to it, because I am sure Kaveri would nail it, as long as writers dont cross the line with her character.
