Chapaak's opening and Deepika's star power

Chapaak opened at almost 5 crores. This, despite the subject ( not entertaining). lack of screens, controversy over the JNU visit and the clash. It opened to this much due to Deepika's star power, and nothing else. People don't usually buy tickets to go for issue-based films.

I saw the film and screenplay is weak. The movie is not gripping or riveting enough. But Deepika is the strongest factor in the movie, she's given an amazing performance.

Sky is Pink and JHK opened to less, despite no clashes and far better trailers.

So, I think we can attribute this opening to Deepika's star power, which is still very much in place.

Everyone agreed the trailer was not up to the mark. You can easily go back and check the comments on the trailer thread.

Mardaani 2 had a fantastic trailer but it opened to 2-3 crores.

All female-oriented movies, unless tinged with the patriotic element, opens below 5 crores.

This movie is no exception, but you have to factor in the clash as well.

Lol when you guys mock others and call their shows cancelled, MOVIES flop etc. Then deepika and her star power can be questioned too. And no amount of excuses gonna work. She flopped hard and proved her star power is a myth. I remember some used to say she is new sridevi lmao

Even with clash there is enough space for both movies and target audience was different. She flopped. Deal with it

Deepika is a 4CR heroine..chapak proved her contribution to all the movies she did have been 4CR on the opening day.

It opened to 4.25crrs not 5crrs. That's quite embarrassing number for so called last female superstar. Without JNU tantrum it would have opened around 3crrs. Deepika's star power on her own had been exposed again and again. This one just cements it.

I heard one of the theatre had 3 people in FDFS. Now thats called Star Power.

Which other actress has ventured outside the commerical space? This is not a commercial movie,it was apparent from the trailer. Also, Deepika is not her glamorous self in the movie. As Anupama Chopra said, her face is disfigured which is one of her USPs.

The movie is very slow and it will be difficult to find an audience.

Clash is not relevant because Chhapaak got 1700 screens. In comparison, Raazi got only 1500 screens. Pari only got 1400 screens.

Clashes only affect big movies because they lose screens which they can earn on. It makes no difference to small films.

It is relevant. People will opt for Tanhaji as it is patriotic, larger-than-life entertainment. If there was no clash, people who are opting for Tanhaji might have gone for Chapaak. It's as simple as that.
