No one deserves to be raped and killed like this. Surely people make mistakes and wrong choices, drug abuse and similar risky lifestyles leave people vulnerable; but that does not mean people should take advantage of these weaknesses to abuse people.

People in India who think rape and murder is an accepted consequence of drug, alcohol, revealing clothing need a big wake up call. There are thousands of foreign tourists interested in the culture and natural beauty of India. Their skin color is different, their attitude and lifestyle is different; but as guests of our nation we should treat them with courtesy and respect. Eve teasing and molesting tourists, defrauding them is no way to win hearts across the world.

The problem lies in social perception of women itself in India. Until that changes, we will keep falling back. Women are expected to be coy and conservative and any woman breaking these norms is deemed to deserve harassment. People need to know that a woman with shorter clothes, partying at a club, experimenting in recreational drugs, consuming alcohol is simply breaking norms - it is not an invitation for ridicule, abuse, harassment. You dont like that quality in women, you cannot respect such women, you do not want to associate with such women - perfectly fine - however live and let live.

Ditto Gauris's comments on post by RTH - written much more intelligently and eloquently than I could have done! 👏

Incidentally, I would not confine the perception of western women in this way solely to India - but to that of the Indian subcontinent generally.

Having said that, I personally am happy about coming down hard on India because the their films, serials and dramas portray plenty of girls dresses in Western associated "skimpy garb" so Indian men should be accustomed to seeing it and be able to contain themselves. 😡

Whole thing is sickening quite frankly.....and embarassing for Indians all over the planet.
