But that would mean they had to spent a lot in.casting, given the numbers of patnis and wohs he had.

Panipat Poor Start - Pati Patni Aur Woh Good Start

There were two major releases this week and it was a mixed day as Panipat started poorly and Pati Patni aur woh had a good start. Panipat opened to a 8-10% response which bad for a costly film like this. The films about Marathas tend to have appeal limited to Maharashtra though there is an exception like Bajirao Mastani but even here it was a generally a Maharashtra blockbuster with Xmas holidays and the the not so good response to the Shahrukh Khan starrer Dilwale (released on the same day) taking it through i some of the other circuits.

The problem here for Panipat will be the same that the chances are mainly in Maharashtra and although this area has a big contribution to the total box office of Hindi films it cannot do the job alone. The film will need a huge turnaround on Saturday which will not be easy as this genre has to open better to survive.

Pati Patni Aur Woh had a good opening of 20-25% and the opening is a little better than Luka Chuppi which was the last release of Karthik Aryan. The film is a remake of the 1978 Sanjeev Kumar film Pati Patni Aur Woh which was mainly a Mumbai circuit HIT but that was more than good enough for that film as it was a small film.

This film can be more universal than the original film and can do well in North and Central as well and in fact these circuits could even be leading for the film. These upcoming actors like Karthik aryan, Ayushmann Khurana or Vicky Kaushal have never taken a double digit opening till date and that is the target for these actors.

This film has an outside chance to get there but it really depends on the evening growth and if there is a boost then it may be the first film for the younger lot to hit 10 crore nett but films that open well dont get a huge boost in the evening as compared to films that dont open well.

So morning opening, aur possibly opeb day toh PPAW be jeeta.

Pawpaw definitely. Producers shoulda burned their money instead of making a movie with Arjun Kapoor

Are they really 'made well' though?

Casting is as important as anything- and I am SORRY if I go on about HOW BAD the casting of Arjun K in Panipat is, or that of Ananya in PPAW (I have my reservations on Khartik, too, but at least he seems to be 'in flavour' with massy circuit).

I don;t think the movies are 'bad' per se, but rather mediocre, dull, bland. So they have no merit in my eyes to 'win' any praise or any good ticket sales....got it?

Ahh.. here's someone with more clout than me saying the same:

‘Panipat’ is like a boring History book chapter which not many would want to read. A dry, drab and dull fare, it will flop at the turnstiles. Read my review at https://filminformation.com/featured/panipat-6-december-2019/ …

Why doesnt he make films like Jodha Akbar, Swades anymore...he knows to make epic films and I believe he is a better director then SLB.

Funding.

HE got hit by MD disaster..and no one was willing to give him another big budget for another historical. SO I am guessing he took what he could, with the 'limitations' imposed on him. I truly believe Arjun came as 'package deal'.

Thing is, you cannot make a BIG historical and have caricature sets or some cheap design or cheap VFX- the end product won't look good and it does mater when you have this huge historical canvass..

Ashutosh was probably given certain conditions and a limited budget..so he tried make best with what he had. I still say he'd have done MUCH better with any of the better actors, even lesser known ones.. Arjun is his main problem..the 'stumbling block'. People can get over similarities with SLB, can get over some silly sets or mediocre stuff, whatever, but simply cannot ignore Arjun's presence and his 'acting'- that's the 'nail in the coffin'.

I also wish for Ashutosh tomake another Jodhaa A kbar.. but he needs a more generous producer that would allow him the necessary budget for everything..and allow him to pick a good cast- or have a good acting cast that would take reduced fee...
