There is no way of answering those types of questions honestly, unless you have a time vehicle and can relive the shooting of the given film with an alternative cast.

Notice also that the options are not mutually exclusive, but who cares about logic when the whole point, it seems, is to crap on actresses people happen to dislike. Amrite?

SLB began his career working as an assistant to Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Parinda (1989). He became somewhat infatuated with Madhuri Dixit. He wrote his first film Khamoshi with her in mind. He pursued her for the film for a very long time but she didn't like the script, thought it was too tragic. He has also said that he wrote HDDCS with Madhuri in mind as Nandini. But he didn't approach her because she rejected him for the previous film. Much later on, Madhuri said she would have done the film if he offered it to her.

I believe post HDDCS, he writes with Aishwarya in mind, she has become his muse. Although he also really wanted to work with Kareena Kapoor too. He has considered her for HDDCS/Devdas. And I even remember her name being thrown around when he was making Black. And we all know she walked out of Ram-Leela.

EXTRA: Twinkle Khanna and Dimple Kapadia were cast in the mother-daughter roles in Khamoshi at one point.
