Vashu Bhagnani responded to the Mumbai Mirror story dated Novemver 4, about Kunal Kohli's dismissal from the premiere of Shaadi No 1 at Cinemax. Although he couldn't see what all the fuss was about, he nevertheless apologised to Hum Tum director Kunal Kohli from Delhi. "Though I'm not responsible for what happened with Kunal, I deeply regret it. It was Sophie Choudry (VJ-turned-actress) who told me about what Kunal said in the press, about being badly treated at the premiere of my Shaadi No 1. I would never misbehave with anyone, let alone with Kunal, who I have known for ten years, and who happens to be my director David Dhawan's nephew."
The premiere of Shaadi No 1 was organised on the lines of an actual wedding, with security so tight, that even a few of the guests were kept out. According to Kunal Kohli, he was turned away from the venue of the premiere despite several attempts to enter the multiplex, until the director drove away in disgust without watching Bhagnani's film.
"This really surprises me," says Vashu. "Kunal has so much face value. Everyone knows him. I'm shocked that he was turned away. Later my wife told me that even she was forbidden from entering. This was part of the security arrangement at Cinemax. I was not responsible. I was trying to play a proper host. Looking out for 2,000 guests isn't easy. But these small hitches spoil it. Anyway, I've told Kunal that I'm keen to screen Shaadi No 1 for him anyplace he'd like me to."
