this is a reply on Quora.........dont know how correct it is, but it says the communication was re-established for a short period of time when Vikram reached 350 m height, then it lost again......it was upvoted by a former and a current ISRO scientist too, so i guess it shud be true....

What happened to Chandrayaan-2’s lander: Here’s how Isro plans to examine cause
Basically it was all a good run until 2.1 km above the surface of moon. The problem began at just this point where the orbiter lost connection with Vikram. The communication was established again in sometime but only for a few seconds. The connection was lost again when Vikram was just around 350 m above the moon surface. (So close..!) As a result of which u could see that the displays in the HQ stopped. Some media people also claimed that the fifth booster did not start when it should have and caused toppling of the Vikram lander.
After a tensed period of around 20 min, ISRO announced this officially that the connection was lost and the data is being analysed.
There was something in the last 2.1 km that went wrong which obviously no one can tell right now.
Although there is little to less hope now that Vikram landed successfully but the orbiter still has a life of 1 year which is going to continue to provide us with invaluable data. It may be helpful for Chandrayaan 3. Insha Allah., but it is definitely gonna help us improve and thats what we are supposed to do.
No worries India!! We still have achieved a lot. I consider it a win along with many ..
Fact :
The Pragyan rover which was supposed to walk over the surface of moon had the National Emblem & ISRO emblem drawn on its wheels. This would have left marks of india on the surface of the moon. Kudos to creativity.
