I agree possesiveness is ALSO a problem but not the whole thing
Yes I also agree....
But another thing s Meenakshi didnt want her daughter in law think own of themselves......
Daughter in law do only things tat Meenakshi want........
I don't understand their dislike for Mishti. It always seemed earlier that Meenu was most possessive about Kunal and the kind of girl he would bring home. Abir was always like a free bird who constantly opposed his mother. She was used to him refusing her for most things. So suddenly this possessiveness for Abir seems a little off. Knowing Abir's personality there is no way that he would marry according to his mothers wishes.
Mishti is an open minded girl but seeing the way Abir .. the fact that he runs an ngo for the upliftment of woemn and children does Minakshi really think he will want a woman who is submissive. It is just not in his personality. If she knows her son a little bit she should understand that by now.
Kunal just dislikes Mishti because his ego is hurt by the fact that she rejected him. The other misunderstandings were created by Minakshi... she filled his ears against Mishti with regards to the job. Minakshi is the one who is telling him that Mishti is manipulative.. so he believes it.. he has not once actually questioned what has she done that has been so manipulative.

Priority changes with time and age.
I think it's just BB's ego and dominating nature that she wants everything and everyone under her control in the name of family's happiness. pata nahi kaunsi century ki theory hei. Kunal is the photo copy of his mother, follows the same theory.
BB's main problem with Mishti is she rejected the rishta, which hurt her ego bigtime.
Possessive, I am not sure. But Meenakshi is one person who wants control over every goddamn thing. She freaks out the moment she realises someone is operating at their free will. She has been calling Mishti manipulative but she is the one manipulating. Her claims that Mishti would be a reason to divide families, while she herself would lead her family to the path of destruction. She is already doing that by manipulating Kunal to an extent that he is readily willing to shatter his dear brother's heart.
Kunal has been led wrongly. He doesn't realise that yet. (However, this leaves me with the question as to how does he manage the business, when he can't see what is happening around him with the people he cares the most for.) He feels he is protecting his brother from a heartbreak, humiliation - something that he had faced. He had suffered a heartbreak earlier and he knows the pain that overtook him as a consequence to it. He wants to protect his brother from that. He doesn't want Abir to suffer the same way he had a year ago. Mishti is not the right person, according to him, because of the image of her, Meenakshi has painted in front of him. His mindset works the similar way as that of Meenakshi's. Her rejection to the alliance seemed more like a humiliation to him. While, what he needs to understand is that his mother did the same thing with Kuhu. The circumstances might have been different but she did. So if Mishti rejecting Kunal was humiliating, then how is Meenakshi replacing the proposal to Mishti rather than Kuhu any different. Someone needs to explain him that before it's too late to redeem him.
And above all, Kunal needs to understand Abir's emotion before ganging up with Meenakshi against Mishti. Once he realises that Mishti genuinely cares for Abir and would go to any extent to protect him, I guess he would mellow down. As of now, his ego combined with Meenakshi's manipulation, isn't letting him see things straight.
For some reason, I don't think Kunal would have reacted this disturbed and impulsive had it been any other girl apart from Mishti.

So true it was Meenu who tried to create a wrong image of mish in front of Kunal earlier and coupled with kunal's own understanding about mish...he is totally going wrong and ..say it possessive controlling dominant..she is all

Meenu ka munna is still a munna -_-
Root cause of each and every problem - Meenakshi Rajvansh.
Though I still don't understand how he can see Kuhu as innocent while Mishti is anything but innocent in his eyes? How did Kuhu manage to gain a soft spot in his heart whereas Mishti was thrashed at every opportunity?

Because we think that people who praise us think good of us and people who criticise us are the ones who dislike us
But over the time we become mature and we understand and learn that not all who appreciate us actually like us and not all who criticise us actually dislike us
Kunal is yet to learn this in his life
I am not talking about kuhu here..she really likes Kunal
but in reference to kunal's understanding about mish ...mish very clearly said that she is breaking the engagement because there are understanding and trust issues between them ...Kunal misunderstood it because of the reasons you mentioned in your post :)
