Being a teacher she earns more than enough to support children and it’s a universal rule -even in India- (which is quite backwards and a lot of fathers are campaigning to have the laws changed in their respective countries), that unless a mother is unfit (neglectful, addict etc) any minors go into her primary care. This is coz children, especially newborns are seen to need the mother more than the father when growing up.

But as you as it is an Indian serial, it doesn’t always make sense and a lot are done for “dramatic” value and to fill in episodes. Also the men in Indian serial are as you say always shown with the upper hand compared to women (something that annoys me but that’s another topic). I appreciate that the storyline is done for dramatic value, was just giving my opinion on the inconsistency in the character of pragya, but I also understand that she needed to something drastic to bring about the leap.

Love how we all have such different opinions and perspectives 😃 we literally see the same situation in so many different ways

Unfortunately they haven't been showing pragya working/ having a job at all for a very long time. At least in YHM they keep mentioning here and there about ishita's dental clinic or ishita being said to be at the clinic even if they don't show her working, but this show has been so unfair and ridiculous in terms of pragya's career that I doubt whether pragya was even working and earning 20 years back let alone even now, so I wonder what would have actually been said in court about pragya's individual financial/ employment status beside being a rockstar's wife if a custody battle had in fact happened.
