One among the very few sports films in Telugu cinema, ‘Jersey’ managed to garner immense critical acclaim and incredible commercial reception upon release. Directed by Gautam Tinnanuri of ‘Malli Raava’ fame, the endearing cricket-drama traced the life of an aged cricketer who is determined to prove his worth at the age of 36. Along with the heart-touching story and mind-boggling climax, the stellar performances from all lead actors like Nani, Shraddha Srinath and Sathyaraj have aided ‘Jersey’ to hit the bull’s eye. The film moved away from the oft-repeated trope of playing to win for the country and ended on a personal-cum-emotional note.

According to latest reports, Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar has purchased the Hindi remake rights of ‘Jersey’ for an undisclosed amount. Speculations are rife that the director of the original film, Gautam Tinnanuri, will helm the Hindi version too. Meanwhile, grapevine believes that Shahid Kapoor might be roped in to reprise Nani’s role in the remake.

Of late, there has been a growing demand for Telugu films to be remade in Hindi. Despite negative comments from critics, Shahid Kapoor’s latest outing ‘Kabir Singh’ is going great guns at the box-office. The film is the remake of Vijay Deverakonda’s ‘Arjun Reddy’ and both the versions are helmed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga.

Like I keep saying south industries need to start releasing their movies all over the country from now on.There is clearly a market for their content. All they have to do is dub them in hindi. Even Bollywood movies have started to dub in southern languages and release it there.

KJo seems to have no vision. Banking on current trends. Telugu movie. Check. Shahid. Check. Might not still be relevant by the time the KJo's movie releases.

I haven't seen Arjun Reddy or Kabir Singh but from what I have read Kabir Singh was quite close to the original. IMO, KJo spoils movies with unrealistic 'grandeur' and OTT songs.
