Saare Jahaan Se Achcha is finally taking off! The space adventure planned by Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur that crash-landed after Shah Rukh Khan suddenly backed out last December, appears to be on track again. The two producers who have been struggling to make this film with one A-list actor after another, have apparently decided to break the jinx and accept a younger generation star instead. And who have they chosen to step into SRK's shoes but Bollywood's new go-to man Vicky Kaushal!

PeepingMoon.com sources reveal that Vicky has been locked in to play Indian Air Force pilot Rakesh Sharma whose life the film is based on. The actor, who is riding high on the blockbuster success of Uri: The Surgical Strike, will sign on the dotted line once his dates are locked. Pre-production will soon start and shooting is expected to kick off in a month, sources said. "Vicky was the ultimate choice after Shah Rukh opted out. Ronnie has given him his career's biggest commercial hit in Uri and there's no way Vicky could have said no, especially for a big-budget film like Saare Jahaan Se Achcha, the sources added.

Director Mahesh Mathai is believed to have worked on this story for many years and it was disappointing for Ronnie and Siddharth after Aamir Khan backed out first and then SRK. The film, a biopic on Rakesh Sharma who became the first Indian to travel in space when he joined the Soyuz T-11 as part of an Intercosmos programme in April 1984, is written by Anjum Rajabali. Shah Rukh Khan seemed all set to play the title role until his December release Zero, that had him going on an adventure to Mars in a spaceship, tanked badly and left him wary of space films. Now Vicky Kaushal will fly Saare Jahaan Se Achcha instead.

After Shah Rukh Khan and Vicky Kaushal, Kartik Aaryan now being considered for the Rakesh Sharma biopic?

The upcoming biopic based on the life of first Indian in space Rakesh Sharma has been in the news for quite some time now. The film was first offered to Aamir Khan who then backed out of the project. Aamir later insisted Shah Rukh Khan to play the title role, to which the actor initially agreed. However, it was later reported that Shah Rukh Khan has pulled out of the film and has reportedly opted for the next installment in his 'Don' franchise. However, uncertainty still remains to continue as nor the actor or the makers have made an official announcement regarding the film.
According to the latest reports, the makers of the film are reportedly opting for actors from the younger generation to play the lead role in the film. Earlier, the news surfaced that actor Vicky Kaushal is being considered for the role. Now another report has stated that actor Kartik Aaryan is also being considered as Shah Rukh Khan's replacement in the film tentatively titled 'Saare Jahan Se Acha'.

The makers of the film reportedly want to cast a younger face to play Rakesh Sharma after SRK's exit. The story revolves around his mission to be the first Indian in space and he was 35 when he achieved this feat. So, the makers have decided to sign one of the younger generation actors. Director Mahesh Mathai has reportedly met Kartik but they haven't had a narration yet. Meanwhile, Vicky Kaushal was spotted at producer Siddharth Roy Kapur's office a few days ago.

However, there is still no official confirmation from either the makers of the film or Shah Rukh Khan who has reportedly quit the project. Recently, Aamir Khan during a media interaction has stated the news as only reports and asked to wait for an official confirmation from SRK.
