Just to add Ash and Salman were 1st choices for BM not Padmavat but got obvious reasons the film never went ahead and slb shelved it until 're emerging with RS PC and DP

No... the story was always called Padmavati... SLB has directed a famous play with this name abroad... it was Padmavati that time too...

At first reading the article .. I went "only Ranveer ... can't see anyone else playing Khilji" .. but then recalled "Asoka" .. When I googled some of SRK's pics from Asoka, I change my mind! .. He would been a great Khilji as well!

Image result for asoka srk

And if you watch Ashoka you will realise what a bad choice SRK would be. He was Horrible.
SRK is the best in his romantic roles.

I'd agree.
SRK is good in romantic role. He can also do villain really well in something like Don. A dark character with some light comedy.. that is what he should do.

Ranveer also won't do another negative role for some time, which is a pity.

Hope one day Ranveer and Rana Dagubatti will make a movie about 2 grey /negative characters.

In the end it hardly matters who was the first choice or even thirteenth choice for this role. Ranveer's talent and the audience response proved he was the "best" choice for Khilji. Kahani khatam. Although it's funny how such articles are now surfacing that Ranveer is getting so much appreciation and limelight.
