Anushka is 23 yrs younger to them and Katrina is 18 yrs younger and both have played their love interest in many movies. If that is ok then why can't a younger woman "act" as a mother if she is an able actress?!
Anushka was 18 when she did RNBDJ against a then around 42 yr old SRK, and he was more than twice her age back then. Just because it happens it doesn't mean it's exactly right you know. I love SRK and I don't think the fault is even with him. Mostly its in the hands of the audience. The fact that mindless movies of no matter how old the male superstars was, was making money, was contributing to this. Audience is changing and that will pave way for more actresses to have a longer career in main roles, just like male actors. And with that we will get to see more age appropriate pairings, as well as age appropriate casting of both male and female actors.
Now it is a par for the course kind of attitude is there for these supporting roles. We should be thankful at least the mindset is changing for at least main female lead roles, where an Ash, Kajol, Rani who are married with kids r getting main roles instead of being relegated to the roles of a heroe's mother and for the fact that the majority of A list leading ladies are openly married and still being the A list actresses they are.
So things are changing. But audience taste has to be the reason for it. While unlike the OP who went on bashing SRK I'm not on a hate spree, but little by little these things need to change. And like how some leading men, namely SKR, Varun for an example being the nicest with their treatment to their female leads, they may if brought attention to these facts, might think of the supporting female lead castings too and maybe do something different in their next movie.
