Also Manmohan singh may have been the puppet .. but I think he went out of that zone and did certain things his own way ... No? ... sorry I am not very well aware of the decade when MMS was the PM! ..

Congress coalition won more seats that election and it was widely expected she will be the next PM. "First Italian to become PM of India " was the headlines in many foreign newspapers ( I heard many westerners were later disappointed)

In a country of over a billion and a grand old party like congress which fought against British Raj, chose her

Some people were in shock that it could come to this... But most I felt were indifferent or even supportive...

She was about to be nominated for the post, then came some last minute opposition from some of her party members bcz of her foreign origin

But there was no hurdle in her becoming PM, the constitution allowed it and most of her party was behind her

Still she declined the post and saved us... Why, what transpired behind the scenes is not clear, my memory is a little hazy and details were murky even then.

The narration they sold to the press and public was that she was following her heart and doing what's best for the country. She was hailed as a hero at that time

Maybe it's partly true... She might not be a Mother Teresa, Annie Besant or a Ida S. Scudder

(she didn't even became Indian citizen until 1982, only after Rajiv became MP and only after a petition was filed in court asking that all "foreigners" be removed from the prime minister's home)

But she he did create history by declining the post :-)

I agree as a resident of heart of India, MP, I could say how much Congress has done this time to come in power. So I also think they will not allow this movie to ruin their image. (Which is already ruined since people are smart anyway...if they can make someone, they can replace too, example both Congress and BJP in MP)

This movie will only be released when it will not show Congress in bad light as per me. 😆

visited MP -Indore and Ujjain after election and every one said Shivraj lost this time only due to modi favored SC ST act that's why BJP lost so many Urban seat in MP

ban always give hype the controversial movie and here BJP twitter handle shared the movie trailer i think that's why Congress more anti to this movie. 😆

Yeah obviously people will be angry when Shivraj will go on making statements like "koi may ka laal nahi hata sakta aarakshan" it was very stupid of him to say and support that. All less intelligent or say duffers are already taking seats and jobs at all levels due to free reservation so obviously general people will be angry due to that. BJP will always lose if they continue making such statement or ding such acts.😆 The less said about Modi is better about this.🥱
His statements are not less cringe worthy.

Well of course BJP will promote this movie becoz it shows Congress in bad light. If it would have shown BJP in bad light, I'm damn sure they would have banned the movie as well.😆

The trailer looks good..All the actors have taken the mannerisms of characters to the T.
Anupam Kher though looks meek but that was how Manmohan Singh was perceived..And Akshay Khanna is the most underrated actor so I hope this movie gets released and work wonders in box office for him.

I dont favour any of the party & being an Indian, that's a sad case..

Anyhow, Manmohan Singh had a strong finance & economics understanding & he could have really uplifted the country with his knowledge if he was not indulged into family saga...

Still waiting for the day when India will be led by selfless, knowledgeable & deserving party..

Saw some wrong information on the posts so putting this.
This movie is based on the book The Accidental Prime Minister by Sanjay Baru who was the media advisor and chief spokesperson for MMS and these are his experiences with MMS.

Sonia Gandhi could not become PM because at the last moment Subramanium Swamy brought up the point which was in the constitution that anyone from any nationality can become PM if they are Indian resident BUT only if their country of origin gives the same favours to Indian born people. Italy does not allow a person of Indian origin to become PM and so the appointment of Sonia as PM would be unconstitutional. He sent out a letter to Abdul Kalam the then Prisident stating this and since this was a correct point Sonia was not allowed to be PM. Then she put up the big natak of how she was not interested in the Khursi and just wanted to do things for the country and made MMS the PM. But the truth was it was only because she couldnt and it wasnt any big sacrifice.
