Mocking is homophobia only. I don't think homophobia actually means any phobia.A homophobic is not afraid,he's being a jerk. Thinking homosexuality is something to joke about or mock is wrong in the first place there is lot of ways one can be homophobic .you can be very accepting of them yet can be internally homophobic n act like omg I met a gay today omg I saw a gay. They're just plain human beings like us,sexual orientation is just a part of personality. Also honestly sexuality is a sensitive matter due to the history of torture , abandonment, isolation, prejudice they've faced n still face .so everyone should have a basic knowledge n decendy of what not to say n when not to say. To grow that decency awareness n exposure is the key

Last year, someone had started this 'homophobhic' trend and everyone follows it. They tagged Shilpa as homophobhic when she actually was good friends with the only gay person, Sabyasachi.

that's like the number one defense white supremacists give,''''But I have black friends' 😆 that means nothing

For the record,Rohit's reaction was homophobic too. He reacted as if he was called something bad, not cz he felt it was homophobic or insensitive to the lgbtq+ community. Men specially think being gay is not masculine n take offense in it. Which is ridiculous I'm cz ek to masculinity is so superficial n fragile these days n doesn't even matter as much as guys think,n dusra gay people can be as masculine as they want .being gay doesn't make u any less of a man or woman sexuality is not gender

phobia means fear of something... literal meaning...mockery n phobic are two different things... I have explained in earlier posts...

yeah but the word's meaning is not taken literally in this case. If you study a bit on homophobia or even watch a few videos here n there you'll understand it's used to describe the prejudice n hatred lgbtq+ community faces . Many have actually criticized the term being coined wrongly cz someone being prejudiced to a queer person is not afraid of them,it's not like it's a tiger n it'll kill u, it is u being ignorant n hateful. N by u I don't mean u,I said that in a general way.
The dictionary meaning of homophobia is-Dislike or prejudice against homosexual people.

that's what I don't see any dislike from any of the contestants here towards Rohit even if they assumed him to be a bi or gay...

But they have dislike towards the fact that someone can be gay, they think it's funny which shows their prejudice. Mockery is just acting on that prejudice. Why would anyone make jokes on someone being bi?Does anyone make jokes on someone being straight? There's an obvious discriminatory thinking

As for commenting on someone's sexuality, would you comment 'omg look at that guy he is straight!' so sexuality should not be a topic, they are not freaks in a museum. Its like saying omg I met a gay today, how idiotic is THAT! You wouldnt go to a straight person and ask them ' hey I heard you're straight? , is it true'. Such things have a long way to progress in India anyway.

Calling a girl a tomboy is not a big deal because historically such girls have not been mocked as much as men have in the reverse. You cannot compare making fun of someones clothes or looks ( which is wrong) to a community that has long been harassed especially in our country , get realll 😆

The reason why people are so politically correct and use the term homophobia is because for a long time gay people have been made fun of , bullied and even killed - there is a history there. For a similar reason why if anyone says something about an African American or an Asian there is hue and cry because there is a history of abuse and enslavement. If someone made fun of you as an Indian like 'oh she smells of curry haha' would you think that is fun or racist because to white people that might just be funny and not perceived as racism.

That's why the issue is escalated because if it isn't now then people will never change their behaviour which IMO is completely right.

I wanted to post a reply but u already said it all 👏👍🏼

I dont think Homophobia is stricly limited to phobia / fear of homoseuals but rather it encompasses a much broader behavior of discrimination and ridicule of homosexuals. Sree's imitation / walk was definitely ridiculing or caricature of a gay person...

Their gestures were offensive. Sree pretending to be overly-effeminate is an overused stereotype that can be insulting. Everyone else discussing his sexuality are just nosy; I mean, one's sexuality is nobody's business but theirs but it makes for good gossip.

I think the subsequent reactions after Salman pointed it out were homophobic - Rohit vehemently denying he's bi or gay. Like, we get it. No need to be so defensive over it, nothing wrong with being gay or bi. And then when he said what if Sree's child was bi/gay and Sree got visibly upset. I think the fact that housemates seem to find being called gay/bi insulting was more indicative of homophobic sentiments than making fun of it.

P.S. anyone else get miffed they kept talking about sexuality like it was a choice or preference? it really isn't!!!

exactly!!!! not a preference not a choice n I guess current generation is more knowledgeable and acceptable of these facts... y pointing silly stupidity, ignorance and prejudice as homophobic... homophobic according to me would be if they stop talking n start avoiding and bullying a person for his sexuality.. who says gay men are feminine... there are many people who are feminine... saying someone has feminine features I don't think is insulting... if that was the case KB is always indirectly called feminine by Salman because of his clothes... and I don't see anyone questioning...
