Going by Salim characterization in show its confusing is he an hero or villan of show (grey?)

One day he makes anarkali stand in yamuna

Next day he saves anarkali from snake poison without bothering for life

One day he makes her do maid work

Next day hes saving her from Ruqaiahs whip

Very next moment he threatens saying confess love by morning

Look at his behaviour with Murad and daniyal too

First days hes almost injuring Daniyal in sword fight

Another day hes pouring water all over Murad

Few days later hes off for drugs party with Murad and Daniyal

One day he says Mahabhat my friend shall eat with me at dinner table

Another day he says you are slave do not forget

With Akbar hes always rude and attitude (thank goodness Akbar will not be confused, he knows how salim will behave with him)

I think only with Jodha and Hamida hes consistent nice (hes sacred of jodha i think whenever he makes some mistake or kand he first runs to jodha to pacify her be it raising hands on akbar or bhul bhulaiya issue)

With all others hes oscillating like a pendulum from one end to another every other day!!!!!!!!!!

Can any human oscillate from hero to villan so fast every other day?

Imagine plight of agra fort inmates if crown prince behaves so inconsistent every day

What makes him happy one day will make him angry another

Salim is shown to portray the churn, the feeling of being torn between different roles that most people face. In him the two roles he is portraying are kind of opposite to each other. He is struggling with being the "crown prince Salim" to "just a guy Salim". He is yet to reconcile both the roles and balance them out. He is shown as a very impulsive person even as a child. The expectations that was asked of him from the people around him varied. Like Jodha was just happy as he is and indulged him as he wanted. As long as Akbar did that as his father, he was very happy with Akbar too. Like letting Anarkali ride with him on the elephant, humor him when he called her his friend etc. But the moment he was told about "rules", about certain expectations based on his position as "crown prince", he becomes kind of like a different person. With being a crown prince, he knows that he is expected to be "like Akbar", and he wants to be like that -- strong, brave, courageous, not afraid of anything etc. And when he feels he cannot match up to Akbar, he gets very frustrated and angry with himself.
Salim the warrior came home from that war field, not Salim the son with respect to Akbar. He was initially angry with Jodha too, but on realizing that his mom was not happy with him being away, and that she has suffered for him, he no longer holds any resentments for her. He had a cordial relation with others like Ruqayya and Hamida, which he is continuing.

With Anarkali, his relation was always different. When she laughs at him, he hits her, sitting on the elephant. But the next moment when he sees her sad, he says that he doesn't know how to apologize and if he knew, he would have definitely done that. And it is the same vein that he is following. When she says that she doesn't love him, he becomes enraged as to how can she "reject me", the crown prince. After some time, he realizes, that if he is crown prince, she becomes "kaneez", someone who doesn't belong in his sphere. Immediately, he becomes "just Salim" who is her friend and equal.

It is the same with Daniyal, Murad and Mohobbat. When he first met them 12 years later, it reminded him of their doings which led to his banishment. And in that anger, he fought with them. For him that welcome entertainment or banquet was not real. He felt that they were all "fake gesture" to kind of cover up the "injustice" done to him. And Anarkali was the only person who had shown him the kindness, her letters which had given him that care that he missed the most. Mohobbat was his "equal" in the war field, one who had fought with him and for him. One who had shown a "care" similar to Anarkali, the friend.

This version of Salim is shown to be very impulsive and prone to fits of anger. He gets enraged very easily with slightest trigger. The moment someone tells him something that he doesn't want to hear, talks to him about his position as "crown prince", he immediately does something that he later regrets. He knew what Mohobbat was saying was "right", but at that time, he didn't want to listen to that. He was just then feeling sore from being rejected by Anarkali. He is especially angry with her that she is ready to take the treatment meted out to her by his family, treating her like dirt, but is not ready to accept his love, respect and the place next to him as his equal.

What he needs is that calming factor, which will bring that equilibrium to his life and gives him balance.

Actually any great person or famous person cannot be just a person

I mean salim will always be a crown prince and than emperor he can never be only salim as he wishes

In order to be famous you sacrifce something in salims case he sacrifices his personal life and joy of doing as he wishes and goes to war at 9-10 years etc

Its like todays actors and politicians they sacrifice simple pleasure of life because they are famous

Akbar is 50 plus years now so hes all serious, courageous etc may be at 20 he was also like Salim falling in and out of love and marrying many women and not liking war etc

Salim may be asuming that Akbar was all that from childhood only that hes now in 50s but that actually takes time. IIt comes with maturity. You cannot be as mature at 20 as you are at 30 year or 50 years because you have life experiences and know good from bad etc you get matured with time.

And Akbar had great mentors in Maham anga and Bairam Khan which Salim never had till now

Man Singh his mentor is only his war trainer he cannot be a foster father like Bairam khan was to Akbar or a mother like Maham was to Akbar. Man Singh himself made it clear to salim as kid do not expect any leniency and support you are soldier and i a trainer and commander in battle zone.

Bairam Khan did not have any children till age 45 years so for him Akbar was only his child or son till he became 15-16 years old. And Akbars mother and dai ma always stayed with him. So he had that emotion and psychology support which salim did not have for past 12 years.

And Akbar became emperor at 14 years so everyone respect him from that age only unlike Salim whose still prince at 20 years. He will never get same respect from ministers etc because hes just a crown prince not emperor.

So how can salim expect that he wants to be like Akbar now only?

Or how can Akbar expect Salim to behave like him as hes not yet emperor

People usually treat you with respect as per your position usually you are emperor more respect you are prince not so much minister ok respect commoner no respect etc
