Call me a cynic but I dont think India is ready for a full fledged #metoo movement. Harvey Weinstein was a huge name outed my many big time actresses. So far we have not really had any superstar, big time director or producer outed. Neither has any A list actress come forward.

Even Hollywood Me Too became kind of a joke. They speak against Weinstein because he fell out of grace with who-knows-who.
I find it strange that the guy has been at it for ages while everyone knew and all of a sudden he's out. Also I'm pretty sure their are more big wigs doing this kind of stuff.

It's the same Hollywood who kept working with Woody Allen despite his "daughter's" allegations and who is now turning their back on him because of Me Too.
It's also the same Hollywood who petitioned for Polanski safe return in America despite the fact that he did rape a 13yo.

Finally we have yet to hear about the cases of pedophily going on in Hollywood. Why is that ? Are those indulging in it too powerful to be named?

#Metoo was successfull not because of random social media posts.
It became successful because for thorough investigation by New York Times which lasted months
Their verified sources, stories all were so thorough that there was very little room for Weinstein to respond.
Plus it gave the public rage, which lead to subsequent outing of more men and demand by women and men to make things better.

The anger part is there in India as well.
Its not just about outing names, its about changing things as well.
So lets hope things change for the better now. Maybe slowly, but surely

India has no such thing as journalism, especially when it comes to films and BW. They literally just make things up and spread rumors or they just re-print press releases that actors/companies are releasing themselves. Most of the BW stories are totally planted by PRs. There is no research done and no sources. Front pages of newspapers are run by companies like MediaNet and are actually paid news.

They do not even credit sources. If one publication prints something, everyone else copies the story with no attribution. They steal photos from other organizations without paying for it or crediting correctly. There are no ethics, no research and no actual work put into stories.

The #metoo movement in India has devolved into faltu blind items and mudslinging and a simple way to get page hits. They just found a new topic to capitalize on and take a brief break from stupid affair stories.

MeToo in India has moved beyond BW. It's about women speaking up for each other and getting themselves taken seriously. Modiji refused to fire a rape accused minister for four years. Kicked out MJ Akbar in days. That's the amount of buzz it has created. There are a few serving their agenda. But that is bound to happen.

To be fair No., jounralism is not that bad.

Vikas Bahl was outed in a huffpost article :
https://www.huffingtonpost.in/2018/10/10/anurag-kashyap-vikramaditya-motwane-quit-mumbai-film-festival-board-in-wake-of-allegations-against-former-partner-vikas-bahl_a_23556171/?utm_hp_ref=in-entertainment

It was a good article again, nicely researched and thorough.

The sheer amount of journalist who joined together and forced a Minister of State to resign.

Look at Vinta Nanda and the Alok Nath stories.
Look at the bigwigs of News Media who were exposed.

Things do get messy.
But it was a much needed mess and I am positive good will come of it.

This is social media driven movement in India and will fizzle out as soon as something more masaledar becomes viral. Sad truth.

Was going to say the same thing. Asia Argenta claims she was raped by Weinstein but loved his company and went with him for 5 years. Now, she is playing victim after she got out of his favor. She herself raped a underage boy she groomed from child.

Vinita is saying Alok Nath raped her. Then, she says she slept with him again as she wanted him to be part of her next series. Can u believe it? Which victim sleeps with her Rapist again? 🤢

Am telling you, many of these cases are going to fall flat. As everyone is an opportunist. Including the women.

Harvey Weinstein himself is winning the case. And you are talking about Bollywood. Even today, his lawyer had got some thing on their favor. One of the biggest charges was dropped the other day after it was found that one of the accusers had confessed that it was consensual. She may now going to be charged for Perjury.

Everyone knows that consensual sex for career growth is not rape but opportunism. All the women who were accusing him had no issues to work with Woody Allen or take benefits from Harvey when it was in their favor.
