@slippery_chilka Look, you misunderstand. I am not trying to turn a blind eye to the plight of the newbies. You think this is the only industry where newbies have to bow down to the wishes of the veterans? I have my cousin doing her PhD and she has to constantly deal with the whims of the professor she is working under - he has basically turned her into his personal house help. I have seniors from my high school days - bright students who, after having worked like hell to get their degrees, are now being made to work 72 hours a week with little to no breaks in between - all for a salary of 8k - with constant abusive language thrown at them whenever they ask for a payraise, day-off or even just a small break to freshen up. Hell, my own mom has faced so much that I wouldn't like to share here... you think they don't have it hard? Newbies have it hard everywhere, bcz the veterans always like to show them who's in charge. This being an industry focused hugely on looks and appearances, the bodily aspects are of course where the difficulties are faced the most. But all of them, they know what's being asked of them - as do my cousin and my seniors - and they choose to stick through, prepared to face it all. At the end of the day it is their choice to make, as professionals. If they're there, it's because they have chosen to prioritise their careers... and to me that choice is what matters. In fact, it's the only thing that does. Bcz to make that choice you require strength. Not everyone has it.

I do not have any "rose-tinted" beliefs as you put it. If I did, I would expect newbies to have a say and their opinions to matter. Of course, they should... but guess what, they won't. Bcz that's how our world is - unfair and heartless and harsh... and I have absolutely no illusions about that harshness. Trust me, I'm not attempting to wave away their difficulties as you are probably thinking me to do... on the contrary, I am so aware of their existence that I am hardened to them. To me, if you're there, you're there knowing what kind of hurdles you have in the road ahead of you. And you're there bcz you know you can see through it. You are MAKING THAT CHOICE, and to me that's what matters.

Idk if I'm being able to make you understand what I mean exactly... this is a sort of emotional topic for me so I might not be coming across as clearly as I'd like to. I've loved the civil manner in which we've talked so far... but if you still think I'm attempting to downplay the difficulties of the newbies, I would like to stop here bcz you clearly haven't understood my viewpoint yet... and I'm not sure I can explain it any more. This is a draining topic for me.

No hard feelings :)

I loved Khushi's kurtis and I especially loved that they were repeated so many times, it was like she really was a normal bahu living in her house with a limited wardrobe. I loved that.

Arzoo's clothes were my favourite among all the Gul heroines I've seen so far though.

Honestly, Indian tv viewers have different sensibilities and different TV watching environment .Indian mass viewers watch TV with family and some times even children with impressionable mind are also present during TV watching. I remember even as a little kid I used to watch kasauti zindegi ki and Keu ki saas bhi kabhi bahu thi with my mom. Not all children go to sleep by 11 pm. Not any more.

Showing scantily attired female actresses is not something I'd be comfortable watching in presence of my parents. Plus , unless and until the overall content get modernised, what is the point of overload of exposed neck, cleavage , back and midriffs. It horribly looks like putting the girls on display.
The less one says about typecasting in ITV , the better. Why can't Pia wear jeans and full shirt ? It also covers a girl very ddecently. Why can't Ruby wear kurti salwar in her pre marital look ? So typical. So a daivik is not allowed to smart classy western and the antagonists are not allowed to wear classy traditional wear. If given saree, it'll be either transparent or with bikini blouse. So typical.

Oh Pia can't wear jeans and shirt or western clothes. Good traditional Indian female protagonists only wear salwar kameez and sarees, then give lectures to the modern clothes wearing females on culture and sanskaar. 😆 Incidentally, if the female is modern to begin with, after falling in love she starts wearing Indian attire because love changes her in a sanskaari way. 😆

I understand what you are trying to say but I don't agree with it. 😊 Just because everyone goes through such actions in their respective career choices does not mean the present and future generations have to go through it. If we speak up now, the change will begin slowly but steadily.

As per your argument, if one makes a choice about their career they have to go through whatever mental or/and physical disrespect that their past mentors went through. If we go by that, then children who go to school should be ready to be slapped, punished and hit by their teachers but now we are speaking up against it and stopping the abuse aren't we? We are changing and reforming the system aren't we? Why can't we speak up about the actors and actresses clothes so their bodies are respected? Why is that a choice that they have to go through? If I decide to become an actress suddenly, does it mean I have to be ready to wear deep cut blouses just for the heck of it? Does it mean my body doesn't deserve respect. Does it mean the team or CV's can insult me or my family just because that was and is the norm? Can't we ask for a change? Better now than never.

If I were to choose among the costumes though, Arzoo's were my favourite.

Khushi and Geet both repeated their dresses. Oh yes Arzoo too had good clothes
