Little background before I dive into the gyaan. So, I was a silent reader when it came to forum posts and only concentrated on my story Toxic. It was the first time I was attempting a thriller with complex manipulative characters having deep traumatic histories and it demanded all my attention. But, during the whole marriage track, I saw numerous posts bashing Aditya for being obsessive and stalkerish. My boyfriend (and no it's not Harshad Chopda *sniffs*) did something very similar to Aditya and I was like, what the heck, I need to speak up for Mr. Sarcastic Pilot. It was now or never and the situation called to the Jhansi ki Rani side inside me. So, I wrote a post in Adi's defense. Yes, I finally did it.
I was really scared before publishing and had almost deleted it from my Google Drive. I was going against the general tide sweeping up the forum and I have seen how brutal forum waasi's can be. But, surprisingly I found many supporters and that encouraged me. One of my Toxic readers wrote to me saying that she would love to read my opinion on the show more often. I was like - yes you go girl. This is a free world. The right of speech is a fundamental right. BP is a mature show with mature audience.
How wrong I was. But, hey you live and learn.
Anyways, it was a lazy Saturday afternoon and I had nothing better to do, so I made a post about Adiya chemistry lacking intensity. I didn't like the kiss and I said it. Fuelled by 'India is a free country' nonsense, I clicked on the little Post button. And BAM ! The post went viral.
People commented essays about Zoya and Aditya's characters. How they feel, what they feel, their trials and tribulations, their emotional fragility. You name it, people analyzed it. I was legit amazed. RESPECT !
And I am a writer. It's my job to analyze emotions (I don't get paid for it but that's a whole new discussion) but forum waasi's were so much better at psychoanalyzing the protagonists. My whole writer tiara came crumbling down and let me tell you this - I was not happy. Downing a mimosa with my pizza (didn't feel like cooking, it was Saturday guys !) calmed my frazzled nerves and I started rationalizing. I realized that I didn't even analyze the stories this much during my English board exams. What if I had ? Maybe I would have scored a perfect 100, who knows. *Wonders* (On a side note - I got 94, which I would like to think was not that bad)
Anyways coming to the main point.
Lessons learnt :
Lesson No. 1 : Easiest way to make a post viral - mention that you didn't like Adiya. You don't need to bash them, just state in a very simple, funny way that you find the chemistry lacking. That's it guys. That's all you need to do.
I know it because the discussion on my post went 12 pages long. On a side note Toxic which demands my blood and sweat averages at 3 pages of comments per update. *Goes to the bathroom to cry. Yeh duniya kitni zaalim hai*
In case anyone missed the infamous post. Here's the link 😆

Lesson No. 2 : People will make counter posts to negate your views. You will be amazed to see the level of devotion forum waasi's have for this couple. Like legit amazed. Knock you on your ass amazed. Be prepared. I was not.
Lesson No. 3 : Hope's not dead yet. There are people who will respect your opinion and will state theirs in a non-argumentative way. Fair and square. You will see some hope in the dark cloud of despair but don't get your it too high. It's just an illusion. The bashing will far outnumber the rationalism.
Lesson No. 4 : Your readers will stand by you. They might not agree with you but they will not unnecessarily fight with you. Thank you guys, I love you all. *Sniffs*
Lesson No. 5 : People will get creative and use your story title to indirectly bash your post. Now that's just lame. But, you'll learn to appreciate the creative lameness. You basically just learn to appreciate everything left, right and center. Appreciation thy name.
Lesson No. 6 : You'll enjoy the whole process and bash yourself for not stating your opinions often. Why should supporters have all the fun ! 😉
