Mohana herself accepted today that she is bad and evil. I also found it very curious that Mohana only wants Ansh and didn't even mention Kajal today. Anyway..
With the MIL's death, her neck was broken, do you know how much pressure is needed to break somebody's neck? Well I do, thanks to watching Arrow. Ved couldn't have done it. She couldn't have hired any Daayan to do it either because I don't think Ved has anything that she can hire Daayans for. LOL.
Mridul aged and died at a young age..neck snapping and sucking out the age are two ways that a Daayan kills. If Mohana had actually loved Mridul, she would have sworn revenge on the hired Daayan hitwoman too.😆 So that option is out of question. All the evidence are pointing at Mohana, Rein. Sorry. Oh and to answer your question, Mohana probably didn't expect Ved to oust her due to sibling loyalty or maybe she thought Ved would be too scared. Plus Mohana is over confident so she may have thought she could've easily bested them.

Now coming to sisters track, well even i find this a bit strange and inconsistent with the earlier episodes, given that Ved had approached Divya to verify if Mo is a daayan or not and that she went around asking people about Mo's personal background and family. So yeah wont disagree that them being sisters is a track introduced due to the extension because earlier I thought Ved may have hired another Daayan to do all the dirty work for her in case she really is negative and that Ruby may be some kind of a double agent working with both Mo and Ved against each other.😆
No, I don't think the marriage would have happened if not for the extension because from the start the show stressed and stressed over Davansh and Devik marriage.
