It won the National Award for the best film this year. Along with best film, it also won the national award for best editing, location sound and child artiste. Along with the nationals, Village Rockstar has also won more than 40+ awards worldwide at different festivals.

What makes the film very special is the director Rima Das. She is a self taught filmmaker from a small village in Assam who has single handedly not just directed the film but also worked as the writer, cinematographer, editor, costume designer, casting director, production designer and producer of the film. Her sister Mallika Das is the audiographer and her other cousin sister Bhanita Das plays the protagonist in the film. So it's just these three girls from a small village in Assam who made this film that went on to win top honours throughout the world which has happened after a long time in North East India. And all of them won the National Awards this year.

The film finally releases next week nationally on September 28 in PVR at Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Kolkata.

Here's the trailer from TIFF:

You're right this one should go to the Oscars. It has high chances to be noticed especially since the personal story of the team behind the movie is touching and interesting.
