There were three main Hindi releases this week with Love Sonia, Manmarziyan and Mitron as well as other films like 22 Hours and Turning Point which have no awareness.
Manmarziyan had a slow start of 10-15% but was the best of the lot. The film actually had good music but the way it was shown in trailers left a lot to be desired and the music basically goes to waste. The film is a love story and this could have really given the film a lift but music can only really work for a film if it is presented correctly on screen.
The director has had an awful year coming of a big flop with Mukkabaaz and a huge disaster Sacred Games in the digital space but this is said to be his most commercial venture. The thinking here is that probably the likes of Mukkabaaz and Gangs Of Wasseypur and others have failed because they were less commercial when the truth is they were bad films. The box office is a simple process in that if something entertains it will do well and if you bore you will be out.
The film was heavily promoted for a film of this siza but that is not reflected much in the opening collections. It still has the best chances of all the releases this week and it should get that Saturday growth on Saturday being a multiplex film but it will be Monday that will tell if this film can go anywhere. The North base should help the collections in Delhi city and East Punjab and these places are likley to be best.
Mitron opened to very dull collections all over. The trailer had an interesting concept but it was totally lacking any face value and promotion was much weaker compared to the a Manmrziyan. The film may be able to do better in the Mumbai / Gujarat belt but from this sort of start it looks a very tough road ahead.
Love Sonia has also opened to very dull collections and does not have going for it and being an Adult film it further restricts the film at the box office.
