For years now, The 3 Khan's have monopolized the 3 biggest holiday festivals in India,

Salman with Eid
SRK with Diwali
And Aamir with Christmas

Salman has given multiple blockbusters on Eid
SRK has given an all timer highest grosser on Eid
Aamir has given all time highest grossers numerous times on Christmas

The argument has always been, you can't get a ATHG or make over 300cr unless you have a SOLO festival release.

But this year we've had 3 films cross the 300 cr mark with ease, all without being released on a festival

Bahubali 2
Padmavaati
Sanju (expected)

And then on the other hand you have a Solo Salman Eid release which has failed miserably to even make 200cr (same thing last year with Tubelight)

So my question(s) is this,

  • Are the days of festival solo releases becoming the biggest hits of the year gone?
  • Will the young generation start locking in days and/or clash with the Khans?
  • Will the Khan's start releasing films on non festival/non holidays? (SRK already has, failed to break 100cr with Fan and JHMS)
  • Will Salman get a solo eid release again after the failure of Race 3 and Tubelight?
  • Will anyone dare clash with Aamir?

and last but not least;

  • Can any of the Khan's release a film on a non festival holiday and break make as much as Sanju/Bahbali2/Padmavaati?

No, I don't think they are overrated.
Diwali, Eid are big in the Indian market and Christmas in the international market.
Movies released during these holidays earn more money than they would if they were released any other time.

No wonder these folks want to release their movies during these holidays.

No.
They are not overrated.
People have holidays during these festivals and like to meet relatives, catch up with friends, go out to watch movies together and basically have fun.

But during non holodays its the die hard movie buffs who would go watch a movie, specially on weekdays, if there is not a strong WOM. And there are lazy people like me who would prefer sleeping after school/college/office than watching movies 😆

Festivals are a time when all your friends are free, so irrespective of what movie is playing, most of us watch it as a part of doing a group activity. So generally festival weekends give boost to the business.

Even Padmavat is a holiday release 😆 Only Sanju and Baahubali are the non-holiday releases to do 250CR+

Padmavaati may have been a holiday but it was still not a festival holiday release, it's run was very impressive.

sanju on xmas 400+cr on eid diwali 375cr
salmans best wom movie is bajrangi so it mgiht be that range also without eid 300

rest it will fall without eid like kick will not do 200cr solely on salman starpower will much likely go 180cr plus

likely amir d3 also wrap under 220cr if not xmas 😆
