Anticipation is a funny feeling, one that makes your heart race a little, your palms sweat and your skin tingle, and it was that very feeling that made my stomach do somersaults as I sat at my kitchen table, picked up my paper knife and ran it under the envelope.

Today was the day I found out if the famous matchmaker of Delhi was willing to take my case. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw a welcome letter before my eyes, the slogan 'Matches made in heaven for those who need a little help from above' made my heart jump.

I was finally going to find love, the love I had dreamed of since I was a little girl. I rested back into my chair as I sifted through the small booklet and began to read aloud.

Dear Zoya Siddiqui,

We are pleased to welcome you into our matchmaking agency, we pride ourselves on our 100% success rate, but even we can't fix everything, so before we enter your details into our specially wired database, we need to know that you are ready for a match made by the heavens above.

Without any delay, I picked up my phone, dialled the number and waited for someone to pick up the phone.

"Hello, Heaven's Matches, Mahi speaking how can I help you today" a polite voice spoke through the phone

"Hello, my name is Zoya Siddiqui and im calling to book my first appointment" nervous was an understatement for how I felt

"Lucky for you, we have had a cancellation, the next appointment is in fourty five minutes, do you think you can make it"

I glanced down at the address, took a deep breath and stood up "Yes, ill leave now, thank you"

"Great, oh just one last thing, dont fall head over heels for the boss, it really only makes our job ten times harder" then the dial tone beeped

Fall head over heels for the boss? I looked down confused at my phone, now why on earth would I do that?

I looked down at my black stilleto high heels as I pulled off my jacket, handing it to the receptionist who insisted I take it off.

She smiled at me before standing up "Can I get you a tea, coffee"

"Just a water would be great, thank you"

She offered me the glass before sitting back down "My name is Mahi, im sure we will be seeing a lot of eachother in the next few weeks, I believe your first appointment is with the boss, he really is great at his job" she smiled again

"Im sure he is, what did you mean on the phone when you told me not to fall for him" Mahi seemed nice, she was dressed in a dark navy shirt, and white trousers, but her warning from earlier had got me a little spooked

"We get a lot of women falling for the boss when he helps them, but he is strictly off bounds, but people dont listen to me, they somehow think they can change him" she tutted, shaking her head

"Is he married or something" the boss had surely peaked my interest

"No, he's sworn off of love, he wants people to experience it but" her tone dropped "Between us, he suffered some heartbreak before and he has no plans on going through it again"

"Ah I see, im sorry to hear that, but I still dont think he should call off love because of something like that, not everyone is the same"

"I agree completley, you're a great girl Zoya, it was lovely speaking with you, but its time for your appointment, walk down to the 3rd door and then turn left, its at the end of the corridor, oh and good luck, dont be nervous" she smiled again

I waved before walking straight, the corridor was cool and airy, only serving to make the hairs stand up on my arms. Photos covered the beige walls of succesful couples, clearly they were proud of what they could do. I turned left, walking down even more before knocking on the door.

"Come in" a husky voice responded making a shiver run down my spine.

As I opened the door, two eyes as orange as the sun as it set met mine. The man stood up slowly the top three buttons of his shirt unbuttoned, the pale hue of his shirt brought out his tanned skin. Dark stubble on his cheeks, a few tones darker than his eyes that glimmered as his lips raised slightly into a smile.

"Hi, im Aditya Hooda, but you can call me Adi, you must be Zoya Siddiqui" his hand was warm as I placed my own in his. "Please, take a seat" he gestured to the seat nearest me then returned to the black leather chair behind his mahogany brown desk.

I watched as he began to type something into the apple mac in front of him before making an ah sound and looking my way again

"So, Zoya, it says here that you have never been in a relationship, what's made you want one now"

"I think, I was so busy with"

"No, no excuses, you are never to busy for love, you chose to be to busy, so why" the way he cut me off made my blood boil, his insinuation that it was my decision to be to busy showed little knowledge of my workplace, and that was something that needed to be understood if he was to find me a match

"I was too busy" I glowered at him "I worked twelve hour shifts on the daily, balancing my family, friends and sleep along with that was difficult, so dont you dare accuse me of being to busy on purpose" I felt my fists clench as he smiled back at me goofily

"Wow, what a temper on this one, look Soya"

"Zoya, my name is Zoya, im not some kind of milk" I rolled my eyes

"Fine, Zoya, I can only help you if you are honest with me, so I will try one more time, why haven't you been in a relationship as yet"

The last thing I wanted to do was explain to him my personal issues. "I already told you, I was busy with work"

"You are insufferable, fine, what makes you want a relationship now" his careless attitude was really bothering me, but I knew he was good at what he did, so I didnt want to just get up and walk out

"I want to find someone to share my life with, it gets lonely being alone" I could tell I had hit a nerve as he pulled back a little, his jaw clenching and his eyes clouded over

"You know the fact you have no experience with men makes my job slightly harder"

"What on earth does experience have to do with any of this, I did not come here to be insulted by the likes of you, I dont know who you think you are preaching love when you're to afraid to even love someone, but unlike you, I am not afraid, I want to find love because it is my time to be happy, if a little issue like my lack of experience is going to make your job harder then clearly I have come to the wrong place, have a good day Mr Hooda" I stood up, shoving the chair back and storming to the door when he spoke again

"Who told you that, who told you im to afraid to love" I turned to see his face right before mine, his body pressed against mine, his nose touching mine

"Oh, so now you're offended, it hurts doesnt it, when someone brings up your lackings when they dont even know you" I bit back

His chest rose angrily before he stepped back, his nostrils flaring as he shook his head, letting out a laugh that left me feeling funny. "You know what Zoya, you truly are one of a kind, no one has ever came into here and spoke to me that way, I was worried you would be expecting this to be easy, but clearly I was wrong, why dont you come back tomorrow, say at ten and we can get started, I emailed the payment scheme over to you"

"Wait, so all of that was a"

"An act yes, I couldnt help someone who thought love was a fairy tale, your lack of experience in the bedroom doesnt concern me, your lack of experience in matters of the heart did, I didnt want to see a client get their heart broken" his gaze seemed far away and I felt slightly guilty, he had his heart broken and though I didnt agree with his method of checking if I had a backbone, I surely understood it

"If you have a one hundred percent success rate, why would I get my heart broken, and about matters of the heart, just because I haven't been in love, doesn't mean I dont know how to love someone in their dark days and in their light"

"Right, of course" he nodded "See you in the morning Soya"

I inhaled sharply "See you in the morning Aditi"

His eyes wrinkled at the side as he snickered "Its Adi"

"I know" I left quickly, wanting nothing more than to get home when Mahi stepped before me

"Im sorry if he was tough on you, he's had a bad day this morning"

I smiled, "Haven't we all, ill see you soon" I grabbed my coat and made my way to my car

It was about an hour later when I got home, the traffic was hectic. Unlocking the door, I walked in "Im home"

My Abbu came walking into the hallway "Roshana, you're home" he smiled

I met my sister Noor's eyes momentarily before shaking my head "Its Zoya Abbu, your daughter"

His face changed quickly, then he smiled at me "Sorry beti", he turned around, walking back to his room leaving Noor and I teary eyed

Zoya and Adi have really got off to a good start haven't they? Or should I say, Soya and Aditi!
