^ My friend watched Sanju and was so impressed that Sanjay Dutt said it was okay to talk about his drug use and girlfriends. 😕
Dhoni's biopic wasn't really a biopic. It was basically a thank you for the people who helped him become Dhoni.

Of course the influence is mainly short term, but it does exist..unfortunately, some people find it hard to differentiate between reel life and real life. I'm not saying that BW should take the all the responsibility of showing correct things because at the end of the day, its a creative, fictional field. But that doesn't mean that they have no responsibility.

The onus obviously is on the director. Its his vision and perception. More so if he states that its on a real person then distortion is wrong and false.
Talking about morality, well that is defined by society/culture where the movie is being made. Trying to cross those boundaries will result in backlash and chaos. No historical or biopic can ever be 100% true or factual, there will be glorification or vilification. But that does not imply that the veracity is compromised to such an extent that its distorted.

On Hirani+ Chopra seem to have a special passion in insulting hindu beliefs like he did in PK. He got away with it is another matter and how long can he do that. But if you talk about morality then the duo failed here. What kind of morality gives you the liberty to mock someone's faith?

In 3 idiots, the "balatkar" laugh was condemnable but Hirani was lucky to get away it at that time. In today's time he would be castigated and would have to issue public apology and delete the scene. Also face the heat from the pseudo liberals who are the first to support his mocking of religion in the name of freedom.

Box office success can be misleading at times, certain genre's like thriller+ sex did sell for some time but later it failed. Similarly a particular genre may work temporarily but there is no guarantee that it will always work.

A sensible and mature approach is expected from film makers while dealing with history or a person, do they deliver that, in the past some makers have, but these new ones No. They are into the game of deciphering what will sell and for how much.

SLB also does exaggeration but his is not mocking anything but making it fanciful or imaginative. It does not burn your nerve like Hirani does.

The resentment for diluting Sanjay Dutt's arms judgment and blaming media for it, is the recent example. Many people liked Ranbir from the trailer but after knowing about the near acquittal of Sanjay from it, they decided not to watch the movie. So the degree to which the film maker is distorting plays a role now, since social media and tv media are active and public comes to know the details of events.
